You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Following on from the Venice thread, we are visiting at the end of September and Mrs Rock and I do love a good mooch round places so there will likely be a lot of walking.
At risk of being lulled into marketing from Jamie Redknap and Kelly Brook, are Skechers any good? Some reviews suggest they are just really squishy foam that feels great when you try them on but soon collapses and with it the support. Hoping for something a bit stylish too, it is, after all, Italy. Geox? Some can look a t bit dorky, IMO, but any good? Or just some decent trainers, but hopefully not looking too "trainery".
They'll need to be compatible with linen slacks, polo necks, blazers, man-bag and my half-Irish pale and freckly complexion, just so that I blend in....
Them Grenson, far, far too much them. Looking ideally at absolute max £100.
I've a paid of Skechers boots with the memory foam insoles. Fine for knocking about it, but really uncomfortable for sustained mooching/walking, unless the trainer versions are more forgiving. I found the foam packed down as you say.
Decent pair of trainers not do you? Have a look at sportsshoes.com - some decent stuff to choose from if you're trying to avoid the trainer look.
keen Targhee. the brown leather ones. or sandals.
and thank me after a long walk in them.

These look good...

How about stealthy black colour walking trainers by Brooks or possibly Cheaper here if they have your size
“a steady pace and all-day comfort are more your speed, try the Zeal Walker shoes”
I find Skechers too soft in their build. They can feel really comfy when you put them on, but when you have been on your feet all day they just are not for me.
Salomon do some very nice light weight breathable walking shoes.
My sim just also got some nice Nike trainer/shoe things
Not sure if these are too trainery, but I have a pair and have been putting miles into them and they're very comfy.

+1 for the all coasts 574s. Acceptable to t'other half for "smart casual' as well, so they must have a bit of cred. Really comfy too.
Those 574’s look good. Do they come up narrow like a skate shoe?
I swear by Scarpa, cost a bit more but last ages. I use to the Mojito Trail myself but the plain Mojito is a lighter version and also great.

Couldn't bring myself to wear Sketchers.

They even come with tan sidewalls to match your tyres!

No, they're pretty roomy, I have wide feet and they fit like a glove.
I like Skechers, but I'm old so it's alright.
I have a pair of Merrell Moab Flight running shoes for walking around towns, theme parks, etc shoes.
They are very comfy all day.

I have wide feet like a baboon and I have an enormous selection of different coloured 574's - the normal ones, not the skate type. They are uber-comfy if you've got wide feet. They do say in their marketing bumph that they're designed with a wider fit than most trainers.
I still baulk at the idea of Sketchers, as it seems a step too close to ordering elasticated trousers from adverts in a Sunday Times supplement, but Mrs Binners wears nothing else (there was yet another pair delivered only yesterday) and absolutely loves them! She walks miles in them too.
I nearly bought a pair of Skechers for holiday, just before I remembered why I don't wear the ones I already have. Echoing the above points, they are very comfy for five minutes in the shop, but rub like buggery on a walk. I wear light trousers and leather brogue boots unless it's too hot.</p>

This is a problem with almost everything on the market at the minute. That white stuff is light and springy and feels great in the shop. It doesn't last very long though.
I do a lot of miles on my feet so I've started wearing running shoes which last a bit longer as they're designed for a bit of a pounding. Currently wearing Nike Pegasus Trail which were spectacularly comfortable for a while. 2 months in they're starting to sag a bit.
I went through loads of those New Balance shoes when they were £50/£60. Now they're £90/£100 for exactly the same models and they just don't last long enough. I go through the soles too fast doing 5 to 7 miles a day.
Reebok classics in white FTW.
… tracky bottoms tucked in your socks, Engerland football top off and tucked into the waistband of your trackies, can of Stella, baseball cap… sorted!
Love my Scarpa Mojitos.
Salomon have been excellent for me. I’ve also had Scarpa Mohitos but they were too wide for my narrow feet. Some more sober Salomon designs have been on sale and in budget.

New balance 530 running shoes... the mesh ones -super comfy and breathable, I could live in them.

I have some Hotter brown leather shoes that still polish up smart enough when required. I've tramped miles in them, they are my main outdoor shoe when sandals, trainers or walking shoes are not required. What I would use in the OPs position.

@sharkattack - I love my 574's and have never paid £90/100 for them. If you get on the New Balance website, theres always sales on where you can pick them up for £60 or so. I managed to get my latest navy blue pair for a ridiculously bargain-tastic £25 at the New Balance outlet shop in Keswick a few weeks ago
