All this Diet talk on here just lately so if you dare show us your problem belly or love handles .

Here is mine 😳 the weight has slowly been creeping up over the last 2 or three years so the time was long overdue for drastic action .
I started eating following the sort of diets bandied around on here when I got back from a Greek holiday on the 20 June I had hit a staggering 18 stones pretty grim for a 5ft 10 bloke . 😳

I had been off the bike for quite a while with a gammy knee (not good when your are a floor layer )and a loss of mojo
but with a trip to lake Garda fast approaching panic set in .

Good news is I have now hit 17 stone and biking every fine day early morning with the dog about 6 miles and evening solo biggest ride so far 20 miles

so here are the horror pics today at 17 st and I hope to post a much better shape in 10 weeks time

[IMG] [/IMG]

[IMG] [/IMG]

Anyone care to join the fat biffers thread
Scorn , Ridicule , or encouragement welcome . 🙂

Good work that man.

It must take some time and effort getting to 18st 😉

(Good luck with the weight loss - I am lighter, and have less to lose, but it's no less difficult.)

EDIT - bloody hell ton. did you have to!

We're going 31 August - 13 September, shame that, could have met up for a beer. Probably staying on a campsite by the lake at Torbole next to Riva.

If you want to go out on a mid week late afternoon ride sometime, I often finish work in Skipton at 2pmish. I have a good all weather 2 1/2hr route at Threshfield which doesn't have massive/steep climbs, but has some great descents including some good singletrack. could meet you there if you want someone to ride out with.

No "taps aff" before pictures unfortunately but I do have an after picture, or rather a work in progress one. Hopefully a bit of inspiration for anyone struggling to lose weight!

I'm the one on the left here, having a little pose off with the guys from the gym 😆

Sadly I'm not quite as ripped as the rest, but to put it into perspective

I'm wearing 32" waist shorts. 6 months ago I was wearing a 40" waist
I weigh about 178lbs here. 6 months ago I was hovering around 210-215lbs

Fat and quite at ease about it. As long as I can ride up any hills I wish to ride down then I'm happy enough.

Kinda my thoughts too, though I know people who have achieved similar. It takes hours and hours of endless gym sessions and being ultra strict with your diet though, but can be done. One of my mates was 16st or so last year, mostly chubby (he's under 6ft), now he's about 13st and has a washboard stomach just like STR's.

i've saved your photo onto my secret drive

I know it's been more than a year or so since I last saw you Phil, but how much weight have you gained? I'd confidently say last time I saw you that you were skinnier than me, and that's going some way!

down from just under 15st in 36" waist jeans to just shy of 12st and 32" jeans need a belt to hold them up (dont want to by 30" just in case i dont fit then i'd depress myself lol)

6foot tall on the dot like artist.

more than doubled/tripled what weights i can lift depending on the muscle group and on my first ever commute on tuesday this week i did 16miles at an average of a little over 20mph.

now have visible abs but not super defined unless i stretch. still got the love handles though and they wind me up a bit!

i could happily post how i did it if anybody is interested, but i wont assume they are 🙂

a year or so since I last saw you Phil, but how much weight have you gained? I'd confidently say last time I saw you that you were skinnier than me,

the bonus of being 6' tall and having had a fair amount of muscle in the past is that when i lost that muscle and put on fat, the fat sat proprotionaly around my whole body, i stil had pecs that looked like good hard pecs, but they were fat... same with the rest of my body, looked less chubby than i was because it was held around big muscle groups as well as the belly

OK, here's basically how i did it:

Diet:

The biggest factor in diet was getting the support of mrsconsequence, she's a chocolate fiend and would always persuade me to join her in pudding, she's also a pizza lover. I sat down with her and we discussed how important it was for me to lose the weight, not only for my mental health but my long term physical health (degenerative back problem, type 2 diabetes in family). She went from getting frustrated with me if i didnt join her in eating badly to proud of me for saying no when she slipped up and offered stuff 🙂

No more takeaways unless special occasion, Friday is no longer a special occasion 😆

Biggest meal of the day is lunch time so my body has a chance to burn it a bit before i settle down for the evening.

Dinners are small, this often means i dont eat with/the same meal as mrsconsequence... initially this caused friction, but the change in my body has meant she has now adjusted her diet for the better too.

Think of the basic principles of the iDiet, but not beating myself up for the odd bit of sugar or bread. Try to make as many changes as you can handle, doesn't have to be all at once. It was only about 2 months ago i stopped having sugar in my morning coffee, but still have some milk.

If i'm slipping up then i try to ensure i slip up before 5pm, knowing i've had a a fair amount of treats at lunch helps motivate me to have a smaller/healthier dinner.

No puddings. This is a difficult but important habit to break i think. you don't need them.

Protein for breakfast (for example: protein shake, scrambled eggs, tin of tuna) and only eating after exercising in the mornings.

Exercise

I try to do 2-3 rides a week with friends, these could be anything from an hour's mess around to 3 hours and are never that intense.... I find it important to keep MTB as a fun activity so i dont fall out of love with it. Last year mrsconsequence and i found ourselves riding like we were training, but only training to maintain some base fitness, it sucked the fun out of it.

Spinning - 2 mornings a week, 45 min sessions. I love spinning because you only get out of it what you put into it... setting your own resistance means you make it as hard as you're willing to push 🙂 Making friends with other people in the spin class really helps, i can chat to nearly everyone there and that makes it easier to get up for!

Weights/core - the other 3 weekday mornings. 30mins worth of upper body (for me this is shoulders, pecs and back... no biceps or legs, riding takes care of the legs and i dont care about biceps (they do grow naturally as a result of being used in most back work-outs though), 15minutes of core work using those swiss/gym balls and crunches/sit-ups, then 5-10minutes of stretching.

This adds up to only 1 hour at the gym each morning which i do on the way to work after having my morning coffee. By going in the morning i dont feel guilty about coming home from work and doing nothing 🙂

So as you can see, there was no magic formula: regular cardio work-out (riding, spinning) regular weights (increases metabolism, changes body shape for quicker/more visible improvements) and healthy changes to my diet... nothing super strict, and i dont beat myself up for buying a sandwich at tescos instead of a mixed bean salad for example...

I think the beating yourself up leads to giving up completely, it has for me in the past so i've made a concious effort to just keep going 🙂

Again, the support of your partner: them understanding you might not eat the same meals as them and them not trying to push their unhealthy stuff on you to make themselves feel better about eating a bar of chocolate whilst you say 'no, i'm trying to be good remember'...

It's very easy to feel like you're being a fatfatfatty if your partner refuses to eat what you eat remember that and make sure you support your partner if they're supporting you in your healthy endeavours!

If everyone in the world had the same body fat as you, it would remove 63,932,487 tonnes from the total weight of the world's population

Still got a bit of weight to lose though.

its worth remembering that as a general rule the lighter you are, the less you burn naturally throughout the day so weight loss slows the more you lose. hence the SSF (stubborn stomach fat as solo used to call it) being the hardest to shift. the bigger you are the faster you'll shift weight if you work hard, but you will need to work MUCH harder to maintain that rate of weight loss as you get healthier.

its amazing how many calories the body burns just staying fat 😯

Haha, yes! It's why the super porkers (not your average slightly obese wannabe) you see on those stupid shows always seem to eat in excess of 6000 or more calories per day, every day. Now I can eat for England, but in order to be able to get 6000 calories in me in a day, I'd have to work up one hell of an appetite for it through exercise.

My Dad was recently 16st but eating a normal(ish) 2500 calories or so per day. He's currently unable to do any strenuous exercise through various health problems related to his joints (not helped by excess weight), but decided to do something drastic to shift the weight. Just by cutting his calorie intake in half, he shifted 20lb in 6 weeks. Obviously I'm not saying this is recommended for everyone, but it has also helped him marginally gain the ability to at least go out for longer walks with his dog again.

Anna, if you're perving over him anywhere near as much as i am then he's now classed as a vulnerable adult.

remember, if the police ask, it's not stalking, its 'recreational following', or 'urban hide and seek'

EDIT - DAMN! forum rules dictate he's only got an imaginary wife 😀 plus he took the photo of himself, it wasn't taken for him by his 'wife' so that mean's you're in with a chance

One of my mates was 16st or so last year, mostly chubby (he's under 6ft), now he's about 13st and has a washboard stomach just like STR's.

I think you should be able to find the dates on the pics somewhere - might have been 4 months between them being taken actually, but the weight loss took 3 months.

I just sorted my diet, stopped eating junk, too many spuds and bread - stopped eating too late at night and watched the calories (easily staying between 1500 & 2000 per day. I've mentioned my diet on here a few times, so won't go into it again, but it's not too dissimilar to the iDave. I'll happily post what I eat in a week if anyone want to know though. The heaviest I've been was 15.5st a few years back when office bound. I got that down to 12.5st in 6 months by eating less and riding my bike. Junk food and lack of riding saw that creep up to 13.5st and I decided to make it stick this time.

Training wise, I do about 1hr 10mins at the gym, Saturday & Sunday - 20 mins of that is cardio (on rower, or treadmill), the rest is weights. I can't remember the last time I rode my bike (don't have time) and other than that I do a few press-ups, dumbell curls and crunches for 20 mins a couple of nights a week.

There was a bit of muscle under the fat to start with - always had reasonable pecs masquerading as moobs and reasonable sized biceps, other than that I guess I'm just lucky that I don't have to put a massive effort in. I'm not that fit cardio wise.

Phil forum rules dictate that it's not really a picture of him!

You'll all have to wait until I get home and spruce things up a bit.

I'm pretty sure today is dress down Friday. So taken literally, I think it should be fine to get one's junk out.

I was going to go for a clever fade... getting shorter towards the little fella.

Make him look real big an' all.
