so do I wear a suit? - I doubt that.
Jeans and shirt? - maybe
Casual style non-jean trousers and shirt?
Shorts and T-shirt? - weather a bit crap.
Proper shoes? Trainers? Walking shoes?
what do you think?
Cheers.
I think you should go in drag. Score some points for equal opportunities ?
Please. They did say they were "curious" so the signs are all there.
What do you do, who asked you? What do you/people who do what you do wear to work.
Me? Suit no tie but that's my normal other people's office attire
It's for an app developer job. Seems a small "cool" company, I doubt they are in suits.
Depending on the industry but in mine I'd wear a suit and no tie. But then that is normal dress for my line of work, if you work in something more casual that may be OTT.
Shirt and trousers I would think. Maybe a jumper if it's cold.
However there's nothing stopping you wearing a suit, better to be overdressed (within reason!) than underdressed.
in "where"?
What should you wear "there" that would fit in?
Is it a warehouse canteen or a Law practice office?
Ask them what normal office wear is? I would imagine they will know better what is appropriate than we will.

Full dinner jacket.
It's the "casual chat" bit that's thrown me a bit. If it was simply "interview" i'd be suited and booted.
The clue was in what I wrote... Though if your trying to hard to fit in that could be worse...
Clean clothes, no unfortunately located holes.
No obscene t-shirts.
"dress for the job you want... not the one you have"
Also casual chat just bang on the suit, say you have just nipped out of the office or as hels said

If I asked someone to discuss a job and this was the thing most on their mind I'd think about looking elsewhere 🙂
App developer you say?
Yer sisters jeans, yer mums cardi, yer dads hobnail boots.

I'm going through redundancy and have been attending a lot of workshops on job hunting etc and have had a lot of good advice. I'm told that there is no such thing as a 'casual chat' because they are judging you from the moment they first meet you. The general advice is to be one level smarter than their office dress code, even if it's described as a. "casual chat" and the people you're meeting are dressed more casually.
I had such a 'casual chat' a few weeks ago and I dressed smartly (highly unusual for me!) and subsequently got a formal interview and job offer. I would probably get away with wearing jeans on a normal
Working day in that office.

then wear what makes it look like you fit in and are one of them.
Comic t shirt, coffee stains, long lonely look of sexual frustration and make no eye contact with anyone female 😉
Just make sure you have fresh biros in your pocket
I normally have egg down the front..

I would always wear a suit, even though I work in jeans and a t-shirt. but engineers can be funny
They seem casual, so wear overalls, say you've been working on your car to add practicality to your skill set.
"engineers can be funny" I've never met any. Weird maybe.
plenty humorous engineers in my experience. some even close to NT. A whole spectrum of spectrums though 🙂
Trousers, shirt, blazer/jacket. you can always take the jacket off to dress down the look.
Just went for the suit. It doesn't get worn much, so may as well give it a day out
If unsure I always recommend a 1970s 'Roger Moore style' safari suit.

in the design/creative game myself...
jean and t-shirts for everyday - meeting with a client - jeans and a shirt
i don't own a suit and seriously at 42, cant tie a tie.
vickypea +1
I do a fair bit of interviewing for jobs that have little or no dress code and have been on both sides of 'casual chats' for various reasons. I can safely say that the candidate being dressed too smartly has never come up as a reason not to employ someone whereas the candidate not having made much of an effort certainly has.
Suit and tie.
If you feel you're overdressed, casually drop in to the converstion that you have another interview after this one.
Make them think you're in demand.
Ah yes, the Safari suit. Don't forget to have a comb poking out of the top pocket (or ideally, in your sock). And use it mid way through the interview.

But I bet you know where all the artisan coffee shops are near your office AND can order from them without feeling self-conscious!
**** - I think I recognise somebody in that Casuals pic - where did you get it ?
I got a bit caught out by an "informal chat" a few months ago, I was luckily wearing a shirt, but they dropped questions like "Give me some examples of how you could use your knowledge and experience to develop new services for our clients" as well as the old "where do you see yourself and the industry in five years", whereas I was expecting more of a chat about how busy they were and government cuts affecting the industry etc etc. Was basically full interview questions!

Ouch, that's a bit close to home!
