As per title
Light bulb in my combination microwave has gone out and needs replacing. As you cant access the light from the main chamber, I checked the manual which state you "shouldnt attempt to change it yourself and should call out an (overpriced) engineer to do it for you".
Considering that's likely to cost £70+ - there's no chance im doing that.
Any advice from any experts on here?
The microwave is a morphy richard.
Cynic-al's guide to fixing electrics:
unplug
take apart
replace part
reassemble.
Microwaves contain a large capacitor that stores lethal levels of current as a charge.(So is still there even when the microwave is switched off and unplugged).
I would suggest unless you are comfortable around HV levels of electricity and the consequences of such to pay a professional.

Hmmm - two very different answers there.
jwt - Your post and link scares me.. however the idea of paying someone to change a lightbulb seems outrageous.
Any idea on expected costs?
Heh I'd not seen that!
Looks straightforward enough to discharge the cap tho.
Do you really need a light in your microwave?
if you are worried about capacitor - just unplug oven for a week or so
I should say I replaced the magnetron in my panasonic one recently - simple enough job, glad I spent £20 to fix instead of £100 for a new one.
My instructions are more comprehensive than cynic-al's
unplug
Stand on bath mat
Put on pair of marigolds
take apart
replace part
reassemble.
Wait for someone else to 'test'
Repeat if necessary
