Anyone know if these are available to buy anywhere? Want to 'take down' a rake (or other garden tool) to pack in a backpack (so maybe 50cm sections?) for trail building duties.

If not, any ideas how to convert a normal handle into a folding or 'sectioned' one - obviously needs to stay strong enough to work with once reassembled.

best of I can think of is see how a two piece snooker cue works(screws together) and buy the bits and fit (stress, I would imagine would be mainly up/down handle but only you know what you're going to do with it).

my mum had her fishing rods down the top tube and sticking out at both ends - but that was a raleigh shopper

Unfortunately trail building will always involve that awkward ride back down to the van carrying tools in all sorts of dangerous ways, OR the stash tools behind bushes method.

For spur of the moment work I just make do with ape style, using bits of branch as rakes and jaggy rocks as digging tools!

Yup, would be nice to find a way round it though.

Only thing I've seen is this, which is a bit rich for my pocket!

What about a rake head on a 10 inch handle that you can leash to a suitable branch when up the trail?

If you have a wooden handled tool perhaps scarf joints would work? Secure the joints with jubilee clips? Wouldn't cost much to try it out on a cheap rake.

Telescopic? Not sure how small you can get down to though
