I get them, great songs, good vibe and all. The only thing is Chris Martin doesnt cope too well with the live singing bit.

Lighten up haters.

I'm sure once you are out to lunch, in the middle of a field with thousands of people, it is quite enjoyable.

Chris Martin doesn't cope with the making entertaining music bit. Never has a band uninspired me as much as these limp wristed so-called musicians.

Dull as ****!

A friend recently tipped me off to Rastamouse. Its quality, never had those kind of programs when I was a kid. It was all Willow the wisp and Ivor the engine.

Clearly rubbish. That's why they've not sold many records, or had the opportunity to play at big festivals. Poor buggers, bet they wish they were successful.

Bland crap sells - see the X-Factor, JLS, James Blunt, U2 etc...

They hit upon a successful formula and milked it. I think they're ok, don't see why they're hated so much tbh.

Having watched coldplay and u2 last night my verdict is
coldplay 1 u2 0

The pyramid looked brilliant at the end.

Tepid music with generic emotion anyone can project a connection onto. It's awfully "lite", 1 calory of emotive expression. I'll sing along to anything with a bunch of fellow drunk people, because it's fun to do not because the music is any good.

It is lucrative, however.

I love how it's hard to tell whether you like the irony in something or the genuine worth when drunk. This is why I currently have a beer.

selling lots of records = success = gullible 'sheep' who buy into the hype + a touch of jealousy.

It's a strange British trait this one, we like success, but not too much mind. 🙄
Weren't they being done for plagiarism, or something a while back?

POSTED 7 HOURS AGO # REPORT-POST

What complete and utter unmitigated bollocks. Fair enough not liking a band but why on earth is someone gullible for liking them?

FWIW I don't like them (although Yellow was beautiful) but some people like some music, others other.

Perhaps it's cool not to like them I don't know.

If you formed a focus group of middle-England radio 2 listeners and asked them what music should be about, the result would be Coldplay

I'm actually convinced that this is how they came about. Which actually makes them more cynical than Simon Cowell. And also makes me despair in this nations propensity for dull mediocrity. Music for the terminally unimaginative I'm afraid.

Oh... and if you want quality, beautifully crafted music, delivered with style and panache then check out Elbow's set from earlier on. Everything Coldplay aren't

Odd then, that their stuff hardly ever gets played on Radio 2 😕

Surely they are the current parallel to U2. Big stadium band, fairly simple song structures, highly polished sound, bit emotive. Kind of like Elbow 😉

Enjoyed that set last night (TV), but I can see why they're a bit marmite. Gonna put Parachutes on in the car today. I realise they are about as fashionable as Giant bikes - hell I ride one of those!

I was glued to Elbow too. Jasey J doing Price Tag with that little girl singing along was soo sweet. I do think it's a pity they don't have a few more harder rock bands involved thought. What's wrong with Radio 2 listeners BTW?

Hater's gonna hate.

Elbow? Don't they aspire to be Coldplay? Plus, the singer is a big fat tosser. He hangs around in the Temple bar on Oxford Road in Manchester, if anyone wants to tell him this.

Coldplay? no thanks. I watched after a bit of hype saying they 'rocked the pyramid stage' they didn't rock me at all. Slightly OT, every time i see an R&B 'artist' at these things, i feel a bit sick. Tinee Tempahh-WTF?

STW not liking something SHOCKER!

oh i do love that this world is full of differing opinions. It seems only here that people are pillocks or deaf idiots if they happen to like something outside of the STW handbook..

I have said it bfore and I will say it again, I like Coldplay. I also like Slayer.

As for plagiarism, Joe Satriani sued them

the suit was "dismissed", looks like they paid him to go away but details are under wraps

Saw Coldplay in Glasto 2005. Opened with Politic, I think. Big big sound - really ace. Had the hairs stand on end a few times. Watched for a bit last night however, but felt a bit uninspired. (bored?)

Saw stereophonics that year too - utter Crap. Faithless were brilliant

I think they're decent, for that sort of thing. Fix You is a nicely engineered song frinstance. Better than most pop-rock chart bands that's for sure.

I remember seeing them co-headlining the Venue in Edinburgh with Terris in about April 2000 and thinking they'd never amount to anything, but it was possible Terris would be huge.

Trouble is that all these festivals are televised and are so much the worse for it , back in the day music fans , and music fans alone went to festivals for the atmosphere and to witness something unique , sometimes something legendary , but you couldn't get it any other way . Back on topic Coldplay seem pretty good to me , they seem able to " cut it " live and their music is pretty good IMO , as has been said previously perhaps it's cool to say they are crap whether you think they are or not .

Stop whinging about it unless you're going to do something better.
