Seems to have stopped working since yesterday

Entire radiator is cold, and the two pipes supplying it

All other rads are hot

TRV failed?

No, unscrew it and make sure the valve thing sticking out moves.

Yup, take the TRV off and try pushing and pulling the pin on the valve with a pair of pliers - apply a wee drop of oil if it's sticky.

A per Al's advice above, there should be a small poppet type valve below the TRV plastic top section, unscrew the body of the TRV then using a pair of needle nose pliers carefully try and move the little rod in the center of the valve up and down to free it off.

Also would be worth checking that rad is not full of air. If the heating has not been on and there is a slow leak somewhere it may be that since water has been pumped round the system again all the air has migrated to the 1 radiator.

On a similar topic, how much bleeding should a system need? Ours generally has an empty rad (the only one on the highest floor) at the onset of winter, I usually bleed it a bit during the winter too. Sign of a problem or nothing to worry about?

It's certainly not right, but how much of a problem? It depends on the gas that you're bleeding:
Hydrogen sulphide (rotten egg smell) is unusual (and toxic) and is indicative of a bacterial problem
Hydrogen is caused by corrosion in the system and can be associated with a new system or components, e.g. a rad (it can also be long-standing)
Air is often either a leak or a pump problem
If it's not air then draining and using a cleaner/inhibitor in the refill will probably help (e.g. Fernox, etc)
