I had a couple of Italian friends to my apartment the other day and they were flabbergasted that i did not have a coffee machine – i told them not much beats a good pot of Yorkshire tea but they would not have it.
Anyone got one of these new fangled coffee machines?

The machines are just more kitchen clutter and some of them cost a fortune. Stick a jar of Red Mountain in the cupboard, they will love it.

You don't have a Gaggia and you come on here?

Just tea for me - not sophisticated enough for coffee but thought maybe one of those Nespresso things might be good for visitors. Coffee is big here – tea you have to import.

Stovetop? Although they take practice to get the volume and tamping (loads and rock'ard to the point the pressure valve starts dribbling IMO) right and I keep a bowl of water next to the cooker to quench the boiler and stop the superheated steam getting through the grounds.

As for the size, get a 2cup (ok for 1 person day to day unless you want really weedy coffee from a 1 cup) and a 6 cup (which'll give 2 people the jitters or 4 people bordeline acceptable coffee.
