Mrs made fish pie today, tasted nice etc I asked what fish she'd used as it had a slight taste variation, and she said she'd bought some Cobbler fish, Id never heard of it so googled it and its some catfish variety from Vietnam. Has mixed bagged things written about it...
Told her not to use it again (as I shut her under the stairs for the night...)
Have you eaten it ? Thoughts ?

Trampus read that earlier...would you eat it ?
No! 🙂
Thanks !
You sure it's not a case of:
"It's something new, unfamiliar - I don't like it"
River Cobbler? We got some from Asda about 2 months ago as a cheap alternative to other white fish. It has quite a strong flavour I found. Personally I didn't mind it but it's probably best eaten dressed up in some sort of sauce or marinated. It was about half the price of haddock if I recall.
Yes was an asda river cobbler
Very happy to eat it in the country where it's reared - there's one restaurant in Hanoi which serves up nothing but - but would much rather eat fish sourced locally; lucky enough to live in the SW where there's plenty of less popular fish species (mackerel, John Dory to name but two) landed.
Vietnamese River Cobbler, Or Pangasius is a cheap alternative to cad. Watched a dispatches where Fish n chip shops had been illeagaly Selling pangasius in place of cod to cut their costs. no big deal, perfectly good to eat. 🙂
It's a sad day when a 'cheap' fish comes from somewhere 6000 miles away. Bloody disgrace that we have allowed this to happen.
Wouldn't eat it due to the distance traveled, same as New Zealand apples e.t.c 👿
LoCo Where is your bike made ? (if its in the UK I apologies)
We've had it a couple of times before we knew what it was and each time it's upset my wife stomach easily done to be fair but it has upset mine too once. it's got a few names Pegasi (spelling) and various cobbler related variations.
The fish itself is OK taste and texture wise, very similar to cod but more sustainable IF! it were produced closer to home that is and not pumped for full of lady wee, more hormones and god know what else then I'd probably try it again.
We've travelled all over Vietnam and have seen the rivers and the pools where they bread them, I wouldn't again now
I could be wrong but I don't think Loco intends eating his bike.
<cue orange joke and ensuing build place discussion>
Mrs T bought some, i took it out of the fridge and threw it in the bin....just to be sure like.... 😀
