Could anyone recommend a coat for me (male) that is suitable for work, (the dreaded smart casual) and general use. Fed up with my current coats being either hip length or goretex and my trousers getting absoltley sodden.

It needs to be
Waterproof
To the knee ( just above is okay as is below)

At 6 ft with bald head and beard...weighing in at 14.5 stone..
It must not make mer look like a
Hench or door man
Bond villian
Flasher
Country gamekeeper

Advice welcome.

Proofed trench coat?
Your problem is that for extended periods in truly wet conditions, it's better to have "short" waterproof coat and trousers. I favour a full length waxed coat with gaiters & boots for wet days out, but that will fall foul of your country gamekeeper image issue.

£575 is a lot of money to look like a grubby old man in a flasher mac; and what if the OP decides in a couple of years that he no longer wants to look like a grubby old man? Your economic argument of 'it'll last forever' goes the way of expensive but goppng carpets then, doesn't it? 😆

a proper mac/trench coat made of a suitable fabric like a real mackintosh/ private white/burberry etc, cheaper options would be peter werth, reiss or high st brands. the big department stores are usually a good place to start.
if you have one of those already then a proper umbrella from london undercover or James Smith and sons.

goretex is fine if you want to look like you work at an activity centre. 😉

Given the rain recently I just want to be relatively dry.....and able to access meetings not looking half bedraggled.... The Mac is winning so far.. Had Barbour's first time round hate the smell of wax jackets....just like being at twickenham

vondally - 😉

I find myself today wearing nearly all UW... oops.

I have the waxed raincoat which has gradually become less oily, I wore it Monday and yesterday as I was out and about first in London then overnight in Bristol, returning to London yesterday afternoon.

You're probably gonna look like some combination of the above regardless.

Barbour do some great non waxed waterproof jackets, that don't look like there usual range of jackets (not that there's anything wrong with them)
