The gearbox on my T32 xtrail failed and was replaced with a ‘new’ one. Main dealer but not sure what exactly was replaced. the clutch now seems pretty heavy and squeaks when in use as if the mechanism needs some oil. Garage says clutch is wear item and So basically not our problem unless you pay for a new one.

I know gearbox and clutch are separate but of course are closely linked so to what extent might changing one impact the other?

Time between change and clutch issue ?. Both separate items TBH. When does it squeak - is it doing it with the pedal held down or on pressing.

Spray some WD on the clutch pedal pivot and the connection at the gearbox as a precaution.

Not a mechanic but if a gearbox is coming out I'd have had a new clutch fitted anyway. As most of the cost is in the labour of taking the gearbox out.

possibly a kinked clutch release cable (assuming its cable actuated) that happened when they were doing the gearbox. It is a wear item if it wears out, but getting heavy and squeaky is not wear (a lack of drive is wear) so assuming a normal warranty its a warranty item

The squeak is when pressing the pedal.

Not sure exactly timing great box was a 18 months or so ago But clutch been like it for a while- didn’t notice it straight away though.

It was a warranty job so they replaced what was “needed” I guess.

It's a hydraulic concentric bearing.

If I ever had a box out I'd always ask if they wanted the clutch doing as it was just parts.

What's the mileage BTW?

Is the squeek from inside the cab?

30k miles 2016 model. you can hear it when manoeuvring and press the clutch. At higher speeds you can’t hear it, although tyre/wind road noise is pretty horrendous so I find you struggle to hear anything above it; having a conversation with some one in the back is challenging!

In the cab or under the bonnet?

And wtf why did it need a box

It can also be the clutch spigot bearing is dry in the flywheel so squeaks when the clutch is pressed and the engine spins at a different speed to the gearbox.

You need to figure if it's a squeak that is coming from the clutch operating which would be a single noise as the pedal or clutch moves then the noise stops, or is a continuous noise once the clutch is pressed which would indicate dying clutch release bearing or dry spigot bearing as above.
It could also be the dual mass flywheel (if it has one fitted?) is knackered. Does the drivetrain/DMF clunk or rattle when you shut the engine off without shoving the clutch in? Has it needed a starter motor recently as swarf/metal from the flywheel sticks to the starter motor magnets?
If it has a DMF - do you start/stop the engine with the clutch pressed like you should be doing?

With major work in a garage, I've always found that it's best to be clear with the service team, about what it is that they are going to do, and not going to do in advance. It helps to smooth out stuff like this.
