Not been here a while and the reason is the new forum.
On android at least it's a very clunky experience.
Can't skoot to the last page of a thread and the select page option is crap when there are over 400 pages of replies to one thread.
Can't see how many replies there are.
The colours are off and it's difficult to read in low light.
Oh, and I'm no longer allowed to attach files/pics. How so?
Similar to you, I've hardly been on since the update. It's not a good experience.
It’s just as slow as the old forum was for me as well, I can overlook changes in the design but I thought that pages loading would at least be fixed. It’s the slowest loading website I use by far.

Yes you can

Because freeloader :P, you never should have been able to upload pictures (just link them from elsewhere).
The others are all styling issues which have been on the back burner while the post delay bug was being investigated.

I think Mark said yesterday that the import had been resumed.
There is already a thread for this type of post -> https://singletrackmag.com/forum/bike-forum/the-new-forum/
It's poor. Drifting away here as well. Not worried about ads, but it is driving me away 🙁 and I'm the product.
Just copy what EMTB forum has done.
Job, Jobbed!
Personally I feel the problem stems from nobody at STW actually using the forum. I might be wrong but I don't recall them ever discussing tyres or starting a casual thread.
No one could be a regular user and think the layout and navigation is optimal, especially if they used it on a mobile device.
I can understand they might not want to keep seeing us moaning when they are working hard but people do have some valid concerns and want the best for the forum.
And all the Forum Fan Bois defenders of the faith will arrive on the scene shortly.
With their tins of T-Polish.
😉
Yes you can
Although it does seem to have been designed by someone who has never used a mobile device - if I have to zoom in to pick the right place to click something is wrong!
However I can forgive all the aesthetic mess (come on the old version was hardly beautiful especially if you had to find the 25% of the screen that wasn’t hidden in ads) IF they can actually make replying to posts work. At the moment two weeks in that seems to be a big IF. I am amused though that some people are saying “I’ve not been here much since the upgrade” as though it was late last year rather than earlier this month!
I work with software people so have some sympathy at how hard migrations are when you have live data and can’t afford downtime. Almost invariably the best solution is not to keep building on top of the system, technology and personal skill sets that got you to the mess you are now in; but often the best solution is easier to see with hindsight than when you are up to your eyes in it and trying to distinguish hopeful promises and misplaced confidence from fact.
Agree with all above.
+1. Definitely using the forum less. It's a clunky mess & hard on the eyes.
+1 for the colours not being great.
You can jump to the last page as nixie has pointed out but agree with most as the experience isn't as good as it could be
I view the forum in Dark Mode and generally like the layout. The only thing I'd change about the appearance is to make the blue text a bit lighter.
It's certainly speeded up a lot and any remaining delays don't seem noticeable. I hope the team can have a weekend off.

..... using Wordpress.
I've never understood this as there are a number of great options (but I suspect it's money and advertising).
TBH I think it's better than it was but still needs some changing (i.e. in the mobile view see when the last post was made instead of when the thread was started) which I hope will happen. My main concern though is the percieved drop in visitors/threads/posts compared to what it used to be.
Good to see it is now more usable in Opera Mini (mobile) than it was a week ago.
Give them a break - it's taken two weeks to sort the boring tech stuff out. The job of prettifying is next on the list!
Looks fine for me but I don't view in dark mode.
I don't mind the changes, I don't see any improvement in the layout or usability but it hasn't made it worse and it's certainly quicker than it was for me but the real problem is the amount of posting seems to have reduced significantly and I worry that some who are not liking the changes won't give it time and won't be back. Could all go Bike Magic if enough people drift away.

This isn't how software development works in the real world. The tech and the UX should be sorted out well before updating the production environment. A few niggles and issues are part of the release process but not at this level. I hate to say it but it's very amateurish to make changes this way.
The job of prettifying should be a part of the user research and UX discovery process well before any actual development takes place. This all feels like they released a very early beta and every user on the forums is an unwilling QA tester.
Just popped by to see how things are progressing - certainly changed a bit.
Only 3rd time I have been on here since halting my subs at xmas and can see there is still work to be done so will leave it a few more weeks before deciding whether to re-sub. One positive for me is far less screen time since this "upgrade" started.

But they're not software developers though are they, they're a bike mag company with a free forum on the side, and its not like they've got a really expensive product that people are paying to use.

You know Mark has just one full time developer working on this, plus one part time? And I suspect, they are trying to manage non-forum IT issues at the same time. It's not the IT department at Goldman Sachs!

Are paid members getting a faster experience then? I posted a reply this morning which took nearly a minute to submit.
17 s - but at least it actually appeared on the thread. It's certainly speeded up a lot and any remaining delays don't seem noticeable. I hope the team can have a weekend off.
