Any ideas why a FS forum should say closed next to it with a padlock symbol?

it really cant be beyond the wit of the hamster wranglers to put a simple "10 post count in /forum/off-topic before unlocking posting rights in the classifieds" condition in place can it?

Mind you the glitchy bump is still with us....

If it does turn out bad, you can get Racing Ralph 29x2.25s (Snakeskin and TLR) from On One for £25. I bought a pair and am really happy with them.

Paypal gift and new users are always a bad idea.

Just tracked back on this. The thread was closed because we believe the poster is a trader, which is against forum rules, and has had several accounts banned previously for the same reason.

So you're not going to get scammed, this time. Probably. But hopefully Prince Adam has learned an important lesson about life.

Perhaps for access to the FS Forum you should be required to register CC details. At least it would deter the basic scammers.

Maybe they should have a gullibility threshold? FFS!

I think I'm going to end every sentence with 'FFS!' FFS!

Maybe it counts as swear filter avoidance, though FFS!

then again, perhaps not FFS!

anyway 'FFS!' is the new full stop FFS!

I maybe wrong but I've noticed a little more transparency from the mods in relation to why threads are getting closed over the past few days. A very positive step forward IMO.

They have farmed modding out to volunteer monkeys who are currently dizzy with power. Once they become jaded and overworked they will also stop communicating with us the people and issue angry diktats from the central politbureau.

Probably. 😀

I think there might be data protection issues with that - might be hard to justify holding someone's card details when there is no intention to charge them for something.

And would it be worth the hassle for STW to have to hold them sufficiently securely?

They were happy enough to take mine for subscription to the mag. Just take a £1 deposit/check like all the good [s]porn[/s] bike sites do to prove identity.

I expect it'd be a non-starter purely from the point of view of accountability. The classifieds are run as a free service with the understanding that people act responsibly. If Singletrack Towers start taking CC details, it could be inferred that they're suddenly responsible when things go wrong.

It's already a monumental time sink to look after without having to start resolving disputes every five minutes. If you want that degree of functionality and reassurance, I'd suggest taking your trading to eBay instead.

Yeah don't use any method where you have no comeback like Paypal Gift.

We don't store anyone's CC details. I know that sounds odd considering so many of you pay us by CC every year and you get your card re-charged every year, but that's because we don't do it - our card processing company Spreedly - does that. It's the Spreedly company that stores and charges your card and not us. This is a service we buy from them. They are certified PCI compliant. As are we to the level of being able to take a card payment over the phone and then destroy the details as soon as the payment is authorised. What we don't do.. EVER.. is keep a record of anyone's card details.

If you are dealing with a Premier user then these people have paid us money, via our Spreedly system, and we will have an address on file for them. At the very least you will now that these people have given us money. But that in itself is still no guarantee of anything and you should still always be very VERY sceptical of anyone insisting on Paypal Gift.

Some subscribers pay us by Direct Debit. These users we know very well. We even have their bank account details and a verified home address attached to that account information. But we currently don't differentiate these users from others at the forum level.

As Paypal say themselves, Paypal gift is intended for use between friends and family. It is NOT intended to be used to pay people you don't actually know.

Our advice stays the same. As is stated at the top of the Classifieds forum - we do not recommend the use of Paypal Gift at all. There is no comeback at all and it should be treated in exactly the same way as if you have been asked to post cash through the post.

disappointing lack of 'FFS!' in Mark's post.

He's probably got more right to a 'How many more times am I goign to type this? FFS!' than most.

FWIW, from a legislative, compliance and regulatory standpoint, the processes and procedures required of an organisation wishing to store credit card details are an absolute ball-ache on a scale equating to applying Veet to your gentleman vegetables with a pneumatic drill and removing it with a wire brush.

Applying a little common sense when using the classifieds is much simpler.

Nail head IHN..

Just to be able to take a card payment over the phone and then destroy any recorded details as soon as the card payment has cleared has involved huge amounts of work down to the level of what type of shredder we are allowed to use.

oh..

FFS!
