Ok I've got my day off today and I don't want to miss out on the lovely sunshine. Only problem is I'm in an un-decisive mood.

Should I go bouldering up The Roaches or should I take the hardtail (a borrowed Trek 9.9 SSL from the shop where I work) out for a good ride around Lower Churnet Valley.

Come on help me out please! Tell me why bouldering is better than biking or why biking is better than bouldering - just for a bit of fun of course and to help me make a bloody decision!

As someone who has recently got into climbing, albeit indoors, i would say go climbing.

Incidentally neither is better than the other as they are both wikid awsum.

Why don't you do both, 2hrs bouldering, 3hr ride, 2hrs for travel and faffing and still back in time for tea!

Well I used to mountain bike a hell of a lot, then when I started working as a cycle mechanic I started getting into climbing more and more - maybe because being around bikes all day it's nice to get away from them after work. I've spent pretty much the last year climbing 3 or 4 times a week and I do love it. However, the last few weeks I've had strong urges to get out on the bike and start training up for races again. I don't know, maybe it's just the nice weather 😉

Somebody with your obvious inability to make decisions is probably not best suited to climbing. I'd go for a ride, maybe along a disused railway line. Nice and safe, no thinking for yourself required. 😉

Very funny ;-p

Bouldering done. Now heading out to fetch the bike - I love having days off when it's sunny, especially when everyone else is stuck at work and everywhere is nice and quiet 😉 Sorry, couldn't help it!

Mats are good - and a comfortable place to lounge on when you have your sarnies

Don't necessarily need a mat. I never used one unless I was going high up.

a bit like you need a camelbak, spds, 900lumen lights, bling headsets, a helmet, camo shorts..... to ride a bike

did see a young man on a scooter in 20-25mph gusting winds on sunday with a mat strapped to his back i'm sure it was worth the effort

Well having just got back from doing both, I'll have to say that I really enjoyed the afternoon biking - it made a nice change. It's been about a year (up until this last weekend anyway) since my last proper ride and I'm loving it again 😀

I'd post my RunKeeper map up for you but I lost GPS 11 mins in 🙁 Send me an email (steve@fuguagency.co.uk), we'll head out next time we're both free and I'll show you around if you like. Loads to go at!

fell off the top out move on charlies roof at newstones without a mat, that smarted a bit, but boulder mats are only really useful when it's poo landing on rocks, or to stop you getting a wet bum on sit down starts. I'd rather have a good spotter.

High speed Imp act at churnet was a lovely little (highball) problem and wrights traverse is rather jolly as well, although thanks to the guide books re-discovering the churnet as boulder venue a couple of years ago it's had a thrashing.
