As I scroll down the page in my android device, a blue button pops up saying "click to read more". I've no idea why it pops up, or how to get rid of it.

Anyone else cursed with this or is it just me?

Nope, not seeing it here. Where are you seeing it; is it on every page on just on news articles/forum threads?

I'm on android 12 using Chrome if that helps?

It randomly appeared for me earlier, it sends Opera on Android into a right fit where everything is shaking madly and have to close it. Then it will work fine for a while until it randomly appears again.

Mark thinks he knows what this is and is pushing a button to turn a thing off!

Could he also do something about the video that inserts itself a few post down on each thread please too? It's automatically putting the volume on and also using a lot of data. Happy to have it there but could it please be click to play rather than always on?

Intrusive and annoying aren't they. As a full member, you can turn these videos off. Somewhere in the user preferences, I forget where exactly, but you'll find it. It would be much better imo if they were opt in rather than opt out, but at least there is an option to get rid.

Sorry. A switch got thrown by mistake there. Should be gone now.

it may come back but only for editorial content and only for users not logged in. It should not bother full or free members.

I’d rather not have those videos, but I’ve looked through all the user settings I can find, and I can’t locate any setting that gives to option to turn them off. I can live with them, but while I’m reading down a thread, having the constant flashing and flickering downright irritating!

TJ gave the answer to this on another thread about the videos last night - it's in a hard to find "preferences" option, but it is there. So hard to find that I've just failed to do so.

Click the the white portrait icon, select my account, scroll down to preferences and tick the video option off.

This is the worst thing for me:

Pointless damn blank piece of nothing covering the bottom of every STW page. Covers the Submit and the scroll-to-the-top arrow. Maybe there should be a really interesting advert on it that I can read every single time and buy whatever shite is on there every 5 minutes, like you do, but if there is it's blocked by my work's proxy server, so I wish it would **** off.

It should not appear if you are logged in ie. Free or Full member. It's set to only display to logged out new site visitors. It looks for your logged in cookie and when it finds it this read more function is disabled.

Interested to know if there are any unusual browsers being used by those that experience this. It may help us to fine tune it for members

Given how annoying it is, has consideration been given to how many "new visitors" might just nope out of the site for good as a result? Is it a critical part of STW's functionality?

The data shows it's not having that effect on new visitors. The pages/visit and time/visit metric needles haven't moved (yet)

In terms of its usefulness to us, it generates a extra level of income - it's still experimental in that regard and we won't be able to make a judgement on its overall value until it's been running long enough for us to have enough data.

Thanks Julians, We'll have a look at the browser options and see if we can fine tune things. We don't want any logged in users getting this at all.

I had Click to Read More on my home laptop. Soon as you scrolled the page down, it popped up and stopped you from scrolling. You clicked it and it chucked you back to the top of the page. Christ knows what that shit is for.

To irritate people into subscribing??

I get it at work on the desktop but their enforced adblocker kills the button and not the overlay so there's no way to click and read more.
