Noticed that the fabric roman blinds in the bedroom and ensuite are covered with mould on the back side and it is starting to migrate to the front. Has anyone successfully managed to clean them?
Going to have a go with a white wine vinegar solution. Worried that commercial mould killers will either bleach them, or be a waste of money.
This is the dullest thing that I have ever posted BTW. Sorry.
Watered down bleach has worked for me. Very watered down btw.
But go careful, the last blind I did was paper (thought fabric) and sadly ended up with white patches.
OK'ish. But no mould.
Is the fabric bleach resistant?
Might be worth a test on a hidden bit to see, and if it survives just take the rods out and put them in a bucket of water+bleach.

No having that.... see my configuration of images thread 😉
Not risking bleach. Blue print in a cream fabric.
just wipe them down?
Need to kill the mould. Going to try with vinegar tonight. Rock n Roll lifestyle or what!?
HG mould killer worked on a velux blind at the top of a sun tunnel/moist air trap in our bathroom.
it was pretty grim as no one can reach it with ease(got to go out on the roof outside) vinegar didnt even touch it- Had resigned my self to replacing it but as its a remote solar blind that was going to be pricy so took a punt first.
Expected the HG mould killer to strip the colour out but it doesnt - smells like its chlorine based ?
Sprayed on - waited 10 mins rubbed it with some paper towel - blind is bright yellow all over again.
Take it down, wash it properly, put it back.
It'll be a proper soft fabric on a roman, not stiffened or laminated like the velux, so just wants normal hand (clothes) washing detergent and a decent scrub.
If that doesn't work get the lining removed and replaced.
Don't know whether this will be any use but I spilt red wine on a cream carpet. Made mixture of one teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda powder, one teaspoon of washing up liquid plus one tablespoon of 3% hydrogen peroxide. Successfuly removed stain.
Use rubber gloves, pour on a little using toothbrush. Add more until stain has gone. blot with wet cloth to remove any excess. Allow to dry then vacuum to remove any bicarbonate residue.
Hydrogen peroxide is useful stuff, you buy from Ebay or a chemist. Important that it's 3% though.
Good luck!
I use 'HG mould spray' in our bathroom that's susceptible to black mould . It was recommended by our local hardware store (not cheap, around £6 on Amazon more elsewhere), and it has been the best thing I have found for getting on top of black mould (tried loads of other brands/ concoctions).
It is strong stuff though so would use with caution on fabric, maybe trying a small piece first that might not be seen.
