Looking to get a van in the near future and fit it out as a bike trip vehicle rater than full camper. Basically want somewhere to sleep and store my bike safely that isn't a tent. It will need at least four seats.
I can't afford the VW tax so had been looking at the Transit Custom, either as a straight van or crew cab. Van is cheaper and there's more choice but means I have to crack on with fixing the back up with windows and a seat or two. Crew cab is better but they cost more and ultimately I'd want to replace the seats with folding. As it'll be our second vehicle my budget is hovering around 10-12k so I can't afford a decent Torneo, which is what I'd really like.
Anyway, I went to look at one today and they also had a well specced Citroen Dispatch crew cab in for a similar price to the boggo transit. It's the 2.0 Blue HDI model. Anything to look out for or any real world feedback? It looks nice enough, isn't white or AA yellow and a similar Transit would be out of budget.
I asked a related Q on here a while ago - then forgot to reply - oops.
With your budget, you're probably looking at similar vans as I was. The 2l HDI version of these was settling at the top of my list at the time, but I've decided to change to a car for a bit instead now.
Cheers mate, interesting stuff. I'm having a test drive tomorrow so will be interesting to compare it to the work Transit.
I've just got a Hyundai i800. Taken the back row of seats out and there's a massive area to sleep. Could be worth a look...
Those i800's look like a very tempting way to avoid van tax. Are all of the rear seats removable?
What I said in that other thread still stands (but on 51k now).
One other thing I remembered - if you want to carry anything on the roof, the long crewvan has 6 roof rack mounting points, but they are very closely spaced (basically front - middle - back of the sliding door). Absolutely nothing at the front or back of the roof.
Yes, all rear seats of the i800 come out - They are massive inside!
Defo worth a look then. Thanks!
