I've got to chose a new company car quite soon, and have just noticed the Citroen Cactus. It's light, cheap, roomy, different looking, well equipped and economical. It is also really isn't trying to be "sporty" or aggressive or pissed off looking, which is what puts me off most new cars. Question is, will I still look like a tosser driving one - just a different type of tosser?
Depends if you replace the ** with a "ck" or an "nk"
Worky?
I like it, it's different.
I like the look of it. Makes a change from the endless stream of Qashqais and Jukes I see around here. Here is a review from Richard Porter of Sniffpetrol.
I thought I'd leave people to make their own minds up. It is a bit wacky, but then that could be the same thing...?
wonky
Wckky or wnkky?
It was sniff petrol that piqued my interest.
The things stuck on the door look shite imo.
The 110HDi engined one has a claimed fuel consumption of 83mpg! That is bonkers for a car that size that isn't a hybrid. Mostly to do with the fact that it weighs barely over a tonne. If I hadn't got the Berlingo 6 months ago it would be on my list of cars to consider.
is 17 grand a lot of money for that car or is it just me?
it looks quite cool but I'm not sure id want to look at it every day

Agree with this....at least it is a bit different. What are the other choices?
I can have whatever I want within reason, but as I work in the NHS I'm conscious of not wanting to be flash or extravagant. Had a Prius last time and currently have a Mercedes B class (which is a bit flash, but was peanuts to lease).
Jokes is the preferred reference hereI like the look of it. Makes a change from the endless stream of Qashqais and [s]Jukes[/s]
Unfortunately I live in the vicinity the Nissan plant and anyone who works there can get three cars for them and family for buttons per month and they all seem to go for either a white Juke or a black Qashandqarry. Every other car seems to be one it's a bit depressing. Hopefully now Nissan have introduced a normal car again (Pulsar) that may change but it's doubtful.
The plastic bits on the doors will take a bit of getting used to but I quite like the overall ethos
So long as you won't have to take the depreciation, why not?
Not really my kind of thing, but have to admit it looks funky fresh.
It looks too busy for me especially the airpockets
Quashquow[s]Quashandqarry[/s]
It's one of those quirky Citroens, just hope it ages well and won't look too dated down the line?
Citroen back to their quirky best imo
QuirKy and fresh, saw loads in France earlier in the year and loved them. Or you could blend into the background in a focus (yawn)
rather have a Duster
Citroen do interesting things but that is terrible!
HonestJohn seems to rate them...
Like it apart from the weird door panels.
Irrelevant what it looks like, it's french so it'll spend most of its life at the garage
I saw one in the flesh this week and liked it. It was a greeny colour with browny panels which wasn't the best combo but the car itself look good.
Are the door panels for when you slide sideways into a ditch? They look like a 70's sofa that you could sit on comfortably whilst awaiting recovery.
Reminds me of the Rover 25 streetwise. Thats not a good thing.
Good point angeldust it does and it isn't.
If it didnt have those weird bumpy door panels and was a bit sportier looking it might look just about passable.
I had a feel of the side panels at the local dealer the other day. They are soft, but if easily replaced not a bad idea. I like quirky citroens and embraced the Berlingo for our run about. Not sure I want to look like a plastic Barbour insulated coat.
I think they look ace. Cool and fashionable. Anythings better than yet another dreary grey BMW or Audi, that's for sure.
It's like the Evoques ugly wee brother
I wanted a Rancho! Had to do with a matchbox one with yellow windows!
I wanted a Rancho! Had to do with a matchbox one with yellow windows!
Ditto, I imagined myself driving round the dusty Californian mountains in it, having adventures like Knight Rider or something.
I wonder if that's what Quashqai owners expect to get too?
I went and had a look earlier. It's smaller than I expected. Liking the idea of flat grey with brown bubble wrap and matching leather. Slightly worried the novelty will wear out before the thee years are up though. Will have a drive this week.
Like it apart from the weird door panels.
Its like heavy duty bubble wrap for the doors , ideal for shrugging off car park dents when some numpty decides to open their door straight into yours.
I saw one at the dealers near me the other day, quite liked it, thought the interior was a nice design too, but I like quirky cars.

I like that interior, I'm not sure I could live with the exterior though.
We've got two at work, a 1.6 HDI & a 1.2 3cyl petrol. The 1.2 is surprisingly sprightly despite me thinking that an engine that small would struggle a bit in a car that big.
We looked at one when buying a new car last month, nice but too small for us. If size hadn't been an issue I'd certainly have considered getting one.
I think size might be an issue - although it's got very similar space to a golf, which I was also considering, and didn't regard as too small, so maybe it's perception. It felt quite narrow, but then I'm not sure why that would matter.
I think the bubble wrap will be less jarring with darker colours longer term. Maybe grays and blacks.
The Rancho was 2WD and had a 1.4L 80bhp engine so was definitely more Berlingo than Range Rover. In fact, I think it was derived from an old Simca pickup.
False alarm. Mrs Bol just had a look at the brochure. 2 seconds and "ew, I don't like that stuff on the side". I'll cross that one off the list then.
How sad - Toyota milking the iconic J40 in a tragic retro
Just Google searched as hasn't heard of the cactus and I think 😯 sums it up but not in a bad way necessarily.
Having said that I may pop down to the local dealer to have a look out of curiosity!
I live by a Citroen dealer I've seen a couple. I think they look tacky and childish, I expect they are bought by people who feel the need to try and be different and don't really care about driving. That plasticky stuff on the sides looks cheap and I don't think time will be very kind to it. I'm sure there are some well thought out features and as a vehicle it's has it's merits for those with families etc.
Its great, would buy if i hadn't recently bought a new car.
Its a bit ovestyled for my taste but i do like their approach to weight reduction, lightweight cars are the future.
Take the "airbumps" off & it's just another dodgy Citroen that'll have questionable electrics & dull paint in 6 months time
I like it, I'm not normally a fan of the pseudo 4x4 thing, but this works for me. I do seem to be liking a lot of quirky cars these days, almost anti status symbol, panda/yeti/berlingo types, coincidentally my wife is horrified by this.
Those door handle strap things remind me of something is it mini or allegro?
Those wheels on most models look like giant locking wheel nut sockets.
I first became aware of this vehicle last week when an advert came on the TV when I was at my Mates.
My reaction was erm OK its another weird Citreon, my Mate said " WTF, it's got a Dairy Milk bar stuck on the Doors " 😀
Whatever you think of it it does generate a lot of opinion. So that's good for Citroën.
^^ only if people buy it...
As I said, anythings gotta be better then yet another dreary grey VWSkoBMAudi. I'd get the yellow one just to piss people off. 🙂
saw loads in France earlier in the year and loved them.
I've yet to see one except on TV. I like them, a lot even, but wouldn't buy one, or would I? Maybe if they do a bigger version.
Jeez - and I got slated for considering a brown T5, a yellow Transit and settling on a pick-up with a weird looking canopy.
The Citroen looks awful - I like the interior though
I wanted a Rancho! Had to do with a matchbox one with yellow windows!
Ditto, I imagined myself driving round the dusty Californian mountains in it, having adventures like Knight Rider or something.I wonder if that's what Quashqai owners expect to get too?
Same thoughts, same toy. Still like it - somehow I don't find it naff in the way I do modern faux by 4's. A modem version would make a great bike car.
The cactus looks ridiculous by the way. Interiors interesting though.
Had a spin in one on Friday whilst the Dispatch was having it's MOT.
Nice enough - quite nippy. Bit tram-liny on cambered country lanes. Not so sure about the non wind-down rear windows or lack of split rear seat. C3 Picasso still has much more interior and boot space in a cleverer, more flexible, smaller (externally) and cheaper package. I've generally found the actual price you pay for Citroens is 20%-25% below list (not sure if the fashionable stuff like DS / Cactus etc is different).
Yellow is the only no-cost Cactus colour.........
So did you get one OP?
I only ask 'cos I rode past one the other day and it's quite a unique looking beast.
After test driving new 5 door mini, Skoda fabia, Ford Focus and-out of curiosity, the cactus-wife has ordered a purple one!
Looks like an aubergine!
I've been told by my wife that she thinks it looks stupid, so no, it's off my list. Glad to hear other people are going for it. I saw one on the road in Spain last week in white with brown bits. Looked cool.
Your wife is wise ,i'll bet she can catch flies with chopsticks.
