All hail the new king!

I'll be honest I quite like the guy. He's an environmentalist, and as far as I'm concerned that's pretty much the number one priority for me right now- has been for a long time, but the roasting we git this summer has left me feeling a bit panicky tbh. He also, in a general kind of a way, seems like a good sort. Has he ever done anything really nasty?

He’s an environmentalist

Bollocks

This is part of his estate at Delnadamph.

Environmentalist isn't the right word but I don't think he's a climate change denier either.

I missed the speech but I have high hopes that he'll do the role with the same dedication and dignity as his mother but not necessarily in the same way.

I'm also sure in the popularity stakes that sections of the public will think poorly of him by default because of the Diana situation.

I think he'll do well if the nation gives him the chance.

I think Queen Elizabeth II will be an insanely tough act to follow she came into the role very young and has seen an incredible speed and range of change in her reign. King Charles III inherits a very different set of problems and I wish him all the very best in what is likely to be an extraordinarily challenging reign politically and environmentally.

He did just fly from Aberdeen to London.
As did Harry by the looks of it in a separate private plane.

Anyway good luck to him.

Aye, and in the grand scheme of things, it's small beans, but the massive convoys of Range Rover's sweeping along whenever they go anywhere isn't entirely carbon neutral.

He believes in fake medicine as well and is no environmentalist.

Dangerous hypocritical clown.

You might need to look it up but I don't think his first marriage ended in a completely amicable fashion. That was ages ago though I'm sure nobody remembers it...

Generally though he seems like a person whose opinions on at least some topics I can agree with, that said he's stated he'll remain largely neutral on most things as King, So I suppose Lizzy T can get cracking with the Fracking and face a little less public opposition.

As with any monarch it's what they do/say once crowned, rather than the speculation beforehand, that actually defines their reign (not that I've lived under many Monarchs so far)...

So? He’s not exactly alone in that situation, and the whole messy business was entirely due to the machinations of the court, who considered Camilla to be ‘inappropriate’. Diana was devious and manipulative, and everyone fell for it. It was an arranged marriage for the sole purpose of producing an ‘heir and a spare’, Charles was clearly never really happy with Diana, and I can’t say I blame him.

Protocol that, all the eggs don't go in the same basket (if at all possible).

Diana was devious and manipulative,

I'm not in any way a fan of the Monarchy, but have you got proof of this? Quite a bold statement, that.

But if Charles is a good guy, he'd step down as head of state for former colonies, discuss reparations to them, reverse the exemptions from laws that Queen's privilege allowed them, return all stolen artifacts/wealth in their possession. Oh, and apologise for the deaths in her maj's name.

I don't think that I have ever agreed more with something that CountZero has posted.

Princess Diana was an extremely smart cookie who knew how to manipulate both the press and the public.

They loved her ability to buy mindbogglingly expensive clothes. She knew how to upstage the Queen when the Queen was involved in an important event by making certain that it was her on the front page the next day. Hounded by press photographers? Try to find a photograph of Princess Diana not smiling and dressed to impress. Even on the night she died she went to the Paris Ritz, the last place that someone who is trying to avoid the limelight and publicity would go.

The one good thing she did do though, and which I will always give her credit for, was to help shatter the prejudices and hysteria against AIDS sufferers, that was hugely brave of her imo.

What CountZero, Ernie and TJ said. The other good thing she did was the landmine work.
