Firstly, I’ve tried the search here, but you know…

TLDR: looking for Chromebook recommendations for primary school age kids.

Longer: I know little about Chromebooks other than my kids use them in primary school (10 and 6) and really like the interface (as opposed to when they use my work laptop and are almost throwing the thing out of the window…) so we’re in the market for one at home for the boys to use. As you can imagine it will be web browsing, , Google based activities (sheets, docs, presentations), Spotify etc. . They also use some lite 3d software (we’re not talking Catia here, think it’s called 5d planner which has low requirements), plus basic coding: the usual school stuff.  It won’t be used for gaming as we’re consoled out. I am looking for recommendations/ideas has anybody bought anything recently they can recommend.  £300 budget. TIA.

I've just replaced my old Acer Chromebook (CB3-431) which had served me well for over 5 years. I went with another Acer which I really like. It has a better processor, more RAM and storage, an SD card slot and much better speakers than my old one. It's also supported with firmware updates until 2033. It was also £20 cheaper. However, I paid £229 for mine, they're now back up to £379 so there may be better options for you.

Both my kids have the hp Chromebooks, x360 G1 model from a couple of years ago.  Seem good, and have excellent battery life still.

Any software they need will have to be browser based, an Android app (which may or may not scale well), or possibly a Linux app. You'd need to base your Chromebook on that if the software is essential. Different Chromebooks will offer strengths/weaknesses in each of these areas.

A used i5 Pixelbook Go in excellent condition should be around £220 on eBay and will run all the above well assuming you don't need a Windows or Mac App. No warranty and can have some issues with the camera suddenly not working but otherwise expect to last many years including ongoing security updates. Build quality, keyboard and screen are fantastic. I'm not up to speed with the current new models sorry.

Acer bought on advice above, thanks. Looks to be the same as above: £140 on eBay, 2 months old.
