[Closed] Chrome spitting the dummy over a new monitor

Bought a flashy new widescreen monitor to have side by side documents. Chrome clearly doesn't like something about it as it's decided to crash repeatedly as soon as you start it up. Anyone got any ideas why? Full reinstall and updating monitor drivers has not done the trick.

TIA

Does it work using the old screen still?

Is this instead of or as well as the old one?

What does "full reinstall" mean exactly?

Updated graphics card drivers?

Laptop or desktop?

Try this:   https://www.technize.net/google-chrome-disable-hardware-acceleration/

Cheers

Full reinstall was wiping Chrome using Revo and then starting from a fresh download.

I'll see if the card drivers need an update. It's a desktop..

I'll have to try to get Chrome running long enough to disable hardware acceleration. 🙂

Updated graphics card drivers, managed to get it open long enough to disable hardware acceleration, but it's still not happy.

Will rejoin battle in the morning!

I’ll have to try to get Chrome running long enough to disable hardware acceleration.

That will be done via the nvidia or amd control panel not chrome

Not where I was going.

Updated graphics card drivers

Via Windows Update or the manufacturer?  Try the latter.

Are you using a chrome book or a pc, it's unclear?

It's a PC.

I've always found Chrome on Windows pretty stable; one thing that occasionally does crash it though is a dodgy webpage. It's a bit of a shot in the dark, but try changing your homepage (if you have one) or perhaps set it to open on a blank page and see if that makes a difference.

Sadly, homepage is Google! It's doing it regardless of what page I'm on. Sorting drivers through Nvidia now.

According to a lot of stuff on the internet the main culprits for Chrome crashes are add-ons; do you have any installed?

Hmm..ghostery and <cough> adblocker.

But the only thing that's changed is the monitor. Driver package from Nvidia and turning off acceleration via the control panel hasn't sorted it, either.

Looks like it's Edge for a bit..

EDIT: Well Hello!

Disabled those two extensions, and all appears to be rosy in the world of Chrome...

Now I have to re-enable all the stuff I've turned off. And work out how to reinstall them without it falling over.

Cheers!
