1) Who is doing what?

2) What food can be prepared early and left so the cook can enjoy Christmas too and then pop back into the kitchen for the last bit of prep?

3) What fiddly bits / canopies and show off food?

4) What food to accompany champagne in the hot tub?

Any other Christmas food stuff.

As long as there's mountains of pigs in blankets, I couldn't care less about the rest of it

Being traditionalist we're doing:

1) A Ham, Beef and Free range chicken. With loads of roasties, veg and yes pigs in blankets.

2) The Ham will be done a couple of days before.

3) M&S do that for me.

4) The wife.

This year we are doing the decent thing and driving 200 miles so that someone else can cook Christmas dinner for us.

I expect it will be excellent. My sister in law is a superb cook.

I also expect that my brother in law and I will be late back from the pub and in far too advanced state of drunkenness to fully appreciate her efforts*. There will be the inevitable bollocking as a result.

*Just like the Christmas before last.

It's traditional innit.

Hopefully it won't rain and canopies won't be needed.

I've decided on loin of pork stuffed with prunes soaked in brandy.

We've decided to do (almost) everything off Nigel Slaters "12 tastes of Christmas"

Simple,
Effective,
Everything (except the pigs in blankets) looks excellent.

We shall nom, on our own. No family trips this year, we've been up there far too many times as it is. 😆

Preparing beforehand is a no-no for me, for the simple reason that after nobeerette has opened her pressies, I love spending pretty much the rest of the day in the kitchen, with a cooks reward never too far away....

Nice big free range roast chicken, cos it tastes way better than Turkey, with all the trimmings. I purposefully make enough food for us to eat the same again on Boxing Day. Brilliant.
