Just noticed on Facebook that someone put their Christmas tree up yesterday. That is the earliest I have ever known.
Personally I will be waiting until about the 22 - 23rd of Dec if I can stop the Mrs!
When is too early?
Anytime before December 1st is too early. End of.
Weekend before usually as I have time.
When do people take them down? Normally the 6th for me.
Never take them down. Gives me more time to drink eggnog.
Christmas eve. (I wish - actually more like one week before as a compromise with t'missus)
Me and my family love Christmas, more so because it's the one time we all get to see each other properly. We put our decorations up from the first with a week where the tree sits in water in the garage.
ours will go up 1st December or there abouts.. I think Mrs Yunki has a binliner full of tinsel somewhere in her family tree (which would also explain the twinkle in her eye and the glittery stools)
after the 17 th [ December] as that is my sons birthday
FFS before remembrance Sunday is certainly being keen
23rd.
(strange) guy in the place opposite has his not just up all year, but all the lights on 24/7/365. One way to ensure there's never a blown bulb when you get them out of the attic.
In the US they are normally up from Thanksgiving (third Thursday in November), early/mid december for us usually.
On my birthday
Weekend before.
Lots of continental Europeans do it on Xmas eve.
+ 1 for weekend before.
After 15th, daughter's birthday.
Up 12 days before, down 12 days after. Pretty sure it's rooted in some kind of superstition.
15th, happens to be my dad's birthday and I used that as an excuse not to put them up any earlier.
When the incessant moaning becomes too much to bear.
Around the 14/15 as this is after the family December birthdays.
most festivals, celebrations etc. last only a day or a week. somehow winterval has now stretched to almost exactly 1/3rd of a year.
first weekend in September is when the shops put winterval stuff on display, and try their hardest to make me eat Stollen. first weekend in January is when they take it all down, and instantly replace it with costumes for carnival.
This year it will be either the 7th or 14th.
Our youngest's birthday is the 10th and I have fogotten the rule about having them up before or after her birthday.
Ours go up the weekend before the kids' last week at school.
The 6th. It's St Nicholas' Day, and seems as good a day as any.
That said, there is a bizarre, bizarre house on Bridge Street in Cardiff that put theirs up in October, and will leave it up, fully lit, until February. I know this, because I drive past it once a week, and they always leave the curtains open on their great big windows. 😐
1 December although Mrs. Cyclebiker would have them up now if she could...Bahumbug.
Christmas decorations anywhere should be banned before December 1st.
Bah, humbug.
But yes, we always put ours up in about mid-December.
I'm an Xmas fan, but limit upping anything relating to it until the W/e before and then they are downing the W/e after New Years Eve.
Have been known to up them on Xmas Eve and down day after NYD..
Christmas eve, erecting while demolishing a big box of quality street.
As a kid, living at home. 12 days before and down 12 after.
Now, in my own home it's the first weekend in December.
Putting up Christmas decs was my birthday treat as a kid,and still is,20th December.
14/15th
My birthday is in mid-December, and we don't put anything tinselly up in my house until the day after at the earliest. Jesus can **** off if he thinks we're going to start celebrating his birthday before I get to have mine, the sanctimonious hippy ****er.
Usually about a week before. Most people dilute it too much, you end up with a sort of homeopathic christmas.
Round about the 15th-18th ish.
Approximately.
Up weekend before, down before going back to work in the new year (1st,2nd etc).
Gotta love the STW forum 🙂 All these non believers with a fine example of pick n mix beliefs 😉
Let's all kneel before the altar of consumerism...
Let's all kneel before the altar of consumerism...
no kids then I take it slackalice...?
Middle child's birthday is the 12th of December so usually after that date!
as soon as we get the first adverts for sofas, we had to change that as October way too early. try to go for start of school hols and down before new year. busy time though eldest 21 in jan middle 18 on dec 27. I Like April 😉
No more than 10 days before.
Single bloke with no kids = sod Christmas decorations... bah'umbug!
Always make sure the whiskey cabinet is stocked up though!
1 x 10 year step son yunki 🙂
He is fab too! 8)
In my world, I can pick n mix and kneel along with the best of them 😀
I don't have any Xmas decorations as there's only me and I really can't be bothered and the Dogs would destroy them anyway.
I just go round my mates and enjoy there decorations 😀
Coming home from a ride about 3 days ago,and a house a couple of miles from where I live was lit up like Blackpool illuminations, you had a job to see the house there was that many lights on it.
I put mine up when my first present arrives. So 15 January some years.
Up - weekend before.
Down - weekend after.
No kids. Leave the tree any longer and the dogs just end up trashing the lower reaches of it.
Usually the week before Christmas. But probably a bit earlier this year as I'm having Surgery on the 21st. Hopefully I'm out same day or day after. Don't wanna spend Christmas on a ward as a patient.
Mrs cloudnine runs a website selling gisela graham christmas decorations.. we had a tree up in august to take photos.
If I had my way they wouldnt get put up but the other half loves Christmas and its her house !
Usually a week before. I'm not too fussed when they go up but we always take them down before new years eve. I find Xmas decorations in January very depressing for some reason.
Ours are usually up mid December and down early January. If it was left to me, they'd wouldn't go up at all.
Tom B.. want to borrow the tree wrecker??
