Just to be nosy I looked at the new John Lewis advertisement (I know, I know). A young boy asks his granny for a box with a seed in it (no please or thank you). It's planted with loving care and grows into a ginormous Venus fly trap plant by Christmas time.
This becomes a triffid and spits out lots of shiny paper bits, aarrgghh.
John Lewis need to realise that these bits of glittery shiny paper land up in landfill and nearly every child in the country will want a Venus fly trap plant, which will probably be dumped in a few months time.
Cynical Moi - Oh yes.
I shall not be watching anymore.
Easter Egg anyone?
Not the reason why that advert (nor the M&S one) is getting gammons into a frothy rage!
Praying to the god of Stuff, in the temples of Consumerism - its the new religion.
Didnt you get the memo? 😀

You could argue that it may be a good thing that nearly every child asks for one as it might mean one less crap present made from something that isn't compostable per child. Some of those kids may also learn a little something about nature and how to look after a living thing. FWIW, I had several fly traps as a kid and was fascinated, as have my two girls.
I had a Venus fly trap as a kid, it died. I bought my eldest one when she was about 6, it lived a few months but then died. Never got the chance to see if it would start singing, walking and eating Christmas presents.
Every cloud 😊
Just seen the Lidl advert..... Seems to be set in the USA and features a Racoon.
Way to go recognising your target market Lidl 🤷🏻♂️
First, I don’t think the glittery stuff the plant is spitting out is quite what you think it is - the flytrap grabs all the wrapped presents and spits them back sans wrapping; just what happens every Christmas and birthday.*<br />Second, many people give plants as presents at Christmas, and this may come as an unwelcome surprise, but many of them will die, for a variety of reasons.
It’s not worth having a fit of the vapours over a funny Christmas advert.
*I, and many of my friends carefully unwrap presents and keep the paper for future use. I don’t usually use fancy wrapping, I use brown parcel paper.
