I think Chris Harris is great; he has such genuinely effusive commentary when left to his own devices. In this clip his enthusiasm is off the register and it’s almost as charming as the cars he’s witnessing. Pure automotive bliss.

Thats nice.

You know I often wonder how I missed a lot of things between the ages of 15 & 40 and being a BM fan I found that inspiring enough to start looking back and doing my own research.

I’d love one of those arched Merc’s or Alpina 7’s to cruise around slowly in at the weekend, although I fear where I live - N London suburbs - would ruin the whole experience.  A run out to the country on Sunday morning would be nice which is probably how a lot of them would have been used, ‘cept mine won’t have a body in the boot.

Great video. He is so passionate about the motors. Think I’d have that C126 AMG. As he says it’s the most gangster car ever. So menacing. But... the Renault 5 turbo 🤤

Any of the 8 series for me. My old boss had one, wonderful car.

it's quite sad in a way as cars like that are built to be driven hard and fast not pampered in a airconned dehumidified garage under a dust sheet and kept as assets.

I could easily watch a six season documentary just about that garage. It’s near perfection.

thanks for posting. love 1970-80-90's cars.
The cars in the video are from the 1970's 80's and 90's.

From that sale. Pure, unadulterated filth.

The Wiltshire gangster look?🙂
That'd be perfect for a drive by at The Tidworth Tea Room.

When I become an eccentric billionaire, that’s what I’m gonnna get.

And Tom, if you'd gone to Halfords instead of spending all your money on silly bicycles you'd already be an eccentric billionaire.

I'll have a Citroen Dyane please, in green.

I think he's great - he can also properly drive, which I think is essential in a car show presenter.

He talks about cars, not about himself.

He's knowledgeable and enthusiastic.

And most importantly, he's not Jeremy Clarkson.

I like him.

Nope, because that would be sensible, thus not eccentric. I must keep on as I am, and the riches will just roll in.

Great little vid, thanks for posting.

The odd thing about this is that its made or at least fronted by the Top Gear crew.   This mystifies me as to why they might see the value / style of this clip-ettes as attractive to an audience, and they don't alter the show format somehow to reflect that.

Or perhaps they are gauging clicks/threads like this to judge exactly that...

Enjoyed that. Thanks.

But why were all the cars wheels on blocks? What does this do?

To save stressing the tyres in some way? The blocks were all shaped.

Anyways, that Renault 5, hands down.

The blocks are on coasters I think, makes them easier to shift about a warehouse before an auction?

The Esprit. I'll assume it's a V8 and I will die a horrible death of fire and plastic. That's fine.

The Starion comes a close second though, loved the one in the Cannonball run.

928GTS the silver one with the purple interior.

My cousin (sadly no longer with is) bought one in ohhh... 1990 and it took him to the cleaners, what ever was possible to go wrong on it, did. So Porsche took it back, and offered him another in black and he had it and cosseted it like you would a child.

It was a simple car to drive, but oh so excessive in manner and grunt. It was like driving around in a goldfish bowl but one sat on a skateboard. If you tapped the accelerator with a flick of your big toe, you’d cross the Kessel Run in 8parsecs... it was astonishing...

And I’ve always had a thing for them.

Probably one of the most boring and crap to drive in that whole collection. No idea why they are so sought after when so many many cars are better.

Because the people who watch internet videos about cars are not the same audience as BBC2 on a Sunday evening. Two completely different demographics and the producers want a piece of each pie.

Ah, blocks on coasters makes more sense than my guess.... the blocks were motion sensor alarms to go off if cars were moved/nicked.

Agree. YouTube has channels for people who actually like cars and want to know details about them, history etc,. whereas a TV show is primarily for general entertainment around the subject of cars.
If TopGear had always been lots of pieces like the Chris Harris one here if would be 10% as popular

You actually had a Turbo 2 ? (the mid engined one). You have gone up in my estimation (although you were already very high obviously)

On a similar note, but different world. Nico Rosbergs you tube channel has some good vids in, ignore the super wealthy bits to when he get in a car and rags the **** out of them brand new McLaren senna, classic £1m Merc both driven to oversteering bum twitchyness.

The Renault 5 had me salivating. I deeply, deeply regret selling my 5 Gordini. When I went overseas it was garaged and when my dad died it was sold for absolute peanuts without me knowing ! Came back to clear the house and it was gone. My mum confessed to having sold it as she didn’t think I’d want it. That was 10 years ago and I might speak to her in the next year or so when I have stopped sulking.

A restored and fettled Renault 5 Gordini Turbo will be my daily tool when the Lottery numbers come good. Used to love a Turbo 2 as well - there was one on our village when I was a kid, used to spend a lot of time just looking at it. Sadly it went the way that many did, thrown merrily at the scenery at speed.

Nah, just the boggo front engined  Gordini.... close enough for nostalgia purposes.
