You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Happened upon an old article in Spectrum about 25 microchips that shook the world that I thought some on here might enjoy. First on the list, the 555, that brought back some memories 🙂
Heart of the astable multivibrator (quiet at the back).
I remember making a very basic monosynth with a 555 in high school. It was not quite "in tune" but if you layered it a couple of times you'd get a nice-ish detuned square sound.
I think it's still at my mum's, made out of wood.
Indeed. Might as well have glued it to the breadboard!
Ah, 6502, Z80, MC68000. Them were the days 🙂
Interesting (geeky) read that. thanks. I was surprised at how many I knew.
So incredibly disappointed.. Thought this was about how fish and chips were so much better back in the day (chips definately were)
Gone are the days when an oil filled chip pan would be a permanent fixture on the hob 😉
Not in my kitchen.
Bcm2835?
555 timers but no mention of 747 amplifiers?
741 is an op amp.
747 is a large aircraft.
Easy to confuse the two.
Oops I meant 741 then 😳 and it does get a big mention. Been a long time since my schoolboy electronics projects
Ah - reminiscing back to ARM 1 inside first Acorn Archimedes... (Seem to remember it didn't even have RISC OS then - something called Arthur??)

Mum's was filled with lard.
