I don't like the 2 in our town they're disgusting but others I use in the next town they're fine and can't see why I wouldn't trust them. That said I tend not to read papers as they have a load of crap in them and over hyped stories.

Yes. (round my way is not round Ton's way though) What's been going down in Leeds, Ton?

As an aside, I was in a kebab shop at 2.30am the other night and a young lady got very shirty with the staff because they woudn't sell her a whole cucumber. It's not like they didn't have loads in the kitchen. I'm guessing she was trying to make some kind of misguided drunken e-coli statement.

[edit: no idea if she actually was drunk, because I was absolutley ballbagged]

Not sure I'd get them to look after my children, or manage my investments, but I do sometimes buy meals from one.

Ours is excellent, and amazingly quick. I can order over the phone, and by the time I can get in the car and drive there (under a mile) it's ready.

I rely on them to provide slightly greasy uninspiring food. Seems the same no matter where I go. So yes, I trust them.

I reckon WCA knows the real reason why...

Yes

However when i lived North of Mankychester all the chineses were vile, used way too much salt/soy in their cooking and more often than not combined with a fish and chip shop

Not really. Good, fresh ingredients from local sources is not what you think of with the local Chinese - the special chow mein looks like it's made of floor sweepings from an abattoir. Tastes OK mind, but that'll be the MSG kicking in.

Yeah I trust them as much as any other type of take away / restaurant.

We've got a great one near us but the others produce loads of generic crap which is tasteless, fatty and full of MSG.

Ton, you should try a trip to China & see what you can get served there, a real eye opener, but great experience 😉

I gave up asking what I was eating over there most of the time & enjoyed it so much more, not knowing what it was 😉

I think you are quite safe here in the UK btw.

Yep, trust the one we use most as it's part of a decent restaurant. Food is good but more expensive.

Three key things for me when recommending a good Chinese.

1. The prawn crackers are fluffy, light, taste vaguely of prawns and not of month old chip fat (prawn crackers are dirt cheap to buy in the Chinese cash and carry, especially considering what they charge for them, buying cheap ones is just tight and makes you wonder what else they may be cutting corners with).

2. I don't get the runs an hour afterwards due to the excessive use of MSG etc.

3. The food doesn't glow in the dark due to artificial colourings added to make it look tasty (these colourings are sold in powder form in the cash and carries).

Having pizza tonight though and that's a whole different ball game.

The Chinese takeaways are OK. It's the English ones you need to look out for.

Is this thread really happening? 🙄
Chinese food is ace, stick to your chicken in the basket, ton, it'll be a lot safer. Best not go abroad for your holidays either, it's full of bloody foreigners.

I've read it again and still see a xenophobic thread, or is there something more subtle in there?
And WTF is a nob eb?

I see someone believing urban myths, but what you see depends on where you are standing.
