Hello,

We're looking to fly to Sydney in December and have found a flight from Eastern Airways for around £750 return. This is about 600quid cheaper than the equivalent Virgin flight!

Has anyone flown them long haul before? Too cheap to be any good?

Cheers,
Andy

When I book travel at work, the agents have been known to say, "Ah, the cheapest is China Eastern, but seriously, I can't let you fly on that!". They say the same about Aeroflot, by the way.

Try Finnair. Very good for a long haul option as they code share with BA and CX, so sometimes you can end up doing Finnair to Hell Stinki, then on to SIN or HKG and might get a CX or BA codeshare to SYD.

Cheers, checked Finair and there isn't much in it between them and virgin for the dates we want.

I've had a look on skytrax and the reviews for China Eastern and it's a real mixed bag.... for the savings, how bad can it be?! Tempting still 😀

Having spent a fair whack of time in the Far East, you have to think about the expectations of a traveller.

Cathay are set up for the HK Chinese. The seats are small, the drinks are large.
Singapore, well, similar to the above, but more focus on food than drink.
JAL - Lovely service, stunning staff, but seats designed around the Japanese build.

Now, ponder the expectations of the Chinese travel market. They either have enough money to mean that they they fly with a proper airline, or they fly with the likes of China Eastern. And if they do, what do they expect?
