Putting aside the change affecting £50k+ earners, has anyone had CB stopped for any reason in the past?

I thought the £20/week was statutory for everyone (single child only)?

We had our's stopped last year because we were no longer entitled to it. That's what the missus was told in a letter which she hasn't been able to find since.

Haven't got any joy from HMRC on the phone yet.

Anyone else? Am I missing something glaringly obvious? Ta

I thought the only change was to tax credits (as of 2011)?

Is it definitely child benefit that's been stopped, not some part of the working tax credit or similar benefit?

We never received any other credits or benefits (I think due to non-entitlement because of earnings).

It was definitely for CB because it was approx £80/month. I know a mate and his wife earning similar to us are still receiving it.

That does sound wrong. Until the recent high-earners mess, the only thing than would make you ineligible for CB would be not having any children.

If you can't find the letter, it never happened.

Are you sure your wife hasn't just opened a new account, and not told you...

If only that was the case ... the payments stopped in Nov/Dec.

Another thing worth checking with the HMRC is whether your wife is still receiving NI credits towards her state pension. My understanding is that a non working mother receives NI credits if claiming CB for children up to 12 years old. Of course your wife may be working so this doesn't concern you. I'm not sure how this affects 50k+ earners either.

I may have got my facts wrong but worth finding out about.
