Want a machine for basic browsing, movie watching and occasional ripping, maybe a little minecraft.
This looks very cheap.
Only thing missing is touchscreen I think

Anything I have missed before I hit the button?

It doesn't have the best processor and is running on shared graphics so doubt it would set the world alight in that respect.

For web browsing and a bit of ripping it should be fine, not sure on the capabilities for playing HD stuff or Minecraft.

Just had a look at the Dell outlet and similar specs on similar prices laptops although there are some 17" ones for the same price.

If you can hold off then there might be something in this week with a better spec for a bit more but £250 is not a lot of money for a laptop and an i3 for that price is not to be sniffed at.

I'll def give Dell outlet a look over.

One thing I've noticed is how hard it is to work out how AMD rank against each other now days. Intel is easy - atom/celeron/i3/i5/i7.

Just stick to i3 and possibly i5. I've had an i5 dell xps for 2 years and not found it lacking at all. Dells customer service is like banging your head on a brick wall and the getronics engineers are either spot on or abysmal (business warranty) but tbh I've come to expect no one offers perfect cs these days and the laptop is a lot better than other brands.

one question - can the memory be upgraded on these low end laptops i.e. spare slots or replace 4gb with a 8gb chip. I remember reading somewhere that you can't get to the memory anymore on some machines.

I've noticed that memory upgrades are no longer a option on the dell machines.

I'd say that's a good price for an i3 - I looked around for the best spec I could find at that price a couple of weeks back and ended up with a 14" Assus from Costco. Wish I'd seen this though as I have loads of Argos vouchers lying about
