I'm considering getting a GPS watch of some kind to track riding and hillwalking (and a little bit of kitesurfing just for interest).
I don't need anything flash, HR would be good but not a must. It's not really for training or anything, I just like to keep a record of what I've been up to.
Is there anything out there for around £50 that will do it and export to Strava and other apps? I was looking at the Huawei Band 3 Pro but no way of getting the data out of its own app.
Cheers 🙂
Probably best looking at something second hand. I'd bet you could get a Tom Tom with wrist hr SH for that. While there are better watches out there they are going to be more than £50.
Stealth ad but I have a Garmin watch in the classifieds, pm me if you're interested.
I've got a TomTom spark. Had it for 2 years. Mine has an inbuilt HRM, although you can get one without. HRM doesn't seem that accurate when riding but is ok when running. Lasts about 4 hours of tracking if HRM is enabled. If I don't record any activities and it's just sitting on my wrist passively recording it lasts 4-5 days between charges.
Negatives are the straps which have a habit of breaking. Fixed that by getting a cheap silicone one of eBay. Been fine for over a year now.
It's also really slow to sync over Bluetooth to the phone. This is across three different phones so appears to be the watch or app.
Finally it looks more functional than flashy. Think of it as a big Casio watch.
I'd get another if mine broke. TomTom were doing them cheap from their own shop when I got mine, not sure if that's still the case.
TomTom have pulled out of this market I think which is why they were cheap. If the budget is that low then still worth looking at as they do work (my experience and wife's similar to above). I replaced mine with a suunto sparten sport wrist HR which is way, way better, but nearly 3x the budget.
Decathlon own brand? 80pounds had an earlier version and pretty much refused to die and did what it said on the box https://www.decathlon.co.uk/onmove-500-gps-cardio-watch-id_8391963.html
or cheaper without HRM but seems a bit pointless (to me)
I've got an Amazfit Bip, which tick most your boxes. Amazfit is a sub-brand of Xiaomi. I got mine from China (GearBest) for £39 but amazon do them for about £65. I love it, really small and the battery lasts for ages I use my GPS daily for tracking the commute, with a ride at the weekends and I go a couple of weeks between charges. A few caveats: 1, the HR monitor is pants, especially when tracking a ride(though not a run for some reason). 2, it says its not waterproof although I wear mine daily in the shower and kayaking (under a drytop) I dont think I'd risk kite-surfing. 3, you need a 3rd party app to connect to Strava which costs £1.99 from playstore for Android. i I don't know if there is an equivalent apple option.
All in a great little device and one of my best Chinese purchases!
Amazon had some cracking deals on GPS watches last week, the current Vivoactive 3 was down to £169 might still be on offer.
Stealth ad: My Sony Smar****ch is only 35 in the classifieds.....no hrm but accurate gps, 4gb onboard music storage and 50m waterproof - though not sure it would be up to kitesurfing
Brilliant for walking and running as it works with endomondo and viewranger, plus google maps. Can upload to strava using ghostracer or other apps but for some reason the actual strava app dopesn't work
Cheers all, big yim has sorted me out a cheap Garmin he's selling. Should do what I need 🙂
Amazfit Pace, next one up from the Bip and exports to Strava with no issues. 10hrs GPS recording only uses 40% battery.
As with the Bip, HR is terrible on the bike!
Ticwatch Pro?
I've got a Suunto Ambit 3 Run that you can have for £60. very good condition. Replaced with a Garmin 235. pm me if you are interested.
Scan have some deals on smar****ches under their Easter offers page.
Might be worth a look.
