Hi all,

Some help please, need to send a grand to my son over there, looked at paypal gift but you are charged 3.5% conversion fee (I think), also bank fee's seem expensive.

Anyone got any better ideas?

Cheers

Try Western Union, but they do have some pretty heavy fees.

Transferwise borderless account. Transfer to dollars in the account and then bank transfer (wire) him the dollars from your dollars account. I think.

Transferwise I'd have thought.

^As above - I would have responded sooner but I forgot what it was called.

Have used TransferWise a few times to send money to family in Australia and it's simple and usually cheaper than any other option.

How quick does this transaction need to happen?
Get him to open a Revolut account, (think that is currently the best option for foreign TX charges) pay in the cash and courier him the card when it arrives in a couple of days.

I use Currencyfair, it's similar to Transferwise. He needs a dollar bank account to receive the money, in either case.

Revolut.

You set up a virtual card (for internet spending) immediately. And I think you can transfer out too.

I guess that catch is the exchange rate - but it works  well.
