Well its nearly time to go to the harry potter experience and i'm trying to figure out the best most cost effective way of getting there, we are staying in putney and myself, wife and two kids (8&10) need to get from there to watford junction. There are loads of ways to do this but as far as i can see the tube wont cost anything for the kids using my contactless card so using that would be a good option,or am i missing something? being out in the sticks we dont have such things as a public transport service or UBER or taxis as such (we do but they are expensive infrequent and generally crap) so my mind is blown by the options, id rather keep the costs down and knowing that there are a few in the smoke on here advice would be appreciated. BTW the date is 31st of this month and i think we need to be there by 10am (so 9.30 at watford id guess). cheers.

Assuming you are near Putney Bridge underground.....

District Line to Victoria
Victoria Line to Euston
Overground train to Watford Junction (you might have to change at Queens Park).

Takes just over an hour theoretically. But I'd give yourself at least 1hr30 to be safe.

The Underground doesn't serve Watford Junction but you can get an Overground train or other National Rail service from Euston or a train from West Brompton.
There is a travel planner link on the Harry Potter website that recommends methods of how to get there.
If you don't have a Zip Oystercard for your <10 children then you'll need to buy paper tickets as otherwise they'll be charged full fair.

That TFL site says you dont need an oyster card if they are travelling with an adult who is using pay as you go so do you need a special ticket?? (not entirely sure what they system is!)

Floo powder to Kings Cross.

Get the train from there.

If you're using contactless then they can't get through the ticket gate on the Underground as its all gated. You may be able to approach the gateline staff and go through the Wide Aisle Gate.

Ok thanks for the more helpful ones.... As far as i can see Children under 11 travel free with a fare paying adult ( either contactless or oyster card) on all tube and overground (including euston to watford junction) so in effect id only be looking at adult tickets as long as i paid via contactless which i assume requires no set up in advance. Does anyone know if this is actually correct?

No setup, just tap your bank/credit card!

Im pretty sure you have to register your contactless card with TFL first. Perhaps its optional, Im not sure. I know I did it online, as Im 100 miles away from London.
