The 18 month contract with sky is ending tomorrow so I can change supplier now. Thinking of ditching sky TV and broadband altogether and going with someone else for broadband and use free view as an alternative to save some money. Will be starting searching tomorrow but thought I'd ask here first. Anyone know of any good deals around?

Could do with this as well. Ideally something that includes a sim deal.

Standard reply for this question is to tell Sky you are quitting then hang on for them to come back with a cracking deal. It is a test of will power, eventually they will give you pretty much everything for free.

Personally I don't pay for Sky tele and with the amount of streaming options around, I am surprised anyone does, unless they are really into sport. I have been using Plusnet for a couple of years and they seem pretty good. When I review it, I'll just use GoCompare or another comparison site to hunt around for the best deal.

Moneysavingexpert is a good place to start:

Currently with Plusnet and fairly happy, but need to find a new deal soon to make sure I'm getting get the best price.

plusnet are actually good. but get a used BT homehub (5 or newer) off ebay and use that. The plusnet router doesn't kick out that strong a WiFi signal, but the BT hubs are great.

setting the BT router up is really easy too.

It might be worth considering ditching landline phone and broadband altogether and replacing them with something like Three's unlimited phone/text/BB sims for ~£20pcm inside a (Mi-fi?) mobile broadband router.

I/we are sick of the dropouts from our landline BB (from Plusnet currently, but not really any worse than past providers like BT and Sky) due to the awful ancient internal wiring in our rented flat, on a good day we might get ~21000/5000kbps (down/up-load) for a few hours. Some days internet gaming in something like Rocket League can be so infuriating with latency and packet loss issues, while trying to watch a ~45min episode of something on Amazon Video can sometimes mean having to re-start the stream half a dozen times.

Our Plusnet deal costs ~£26pcm IIRC for landline and "unlimited fibre BB" before any calls made before 1900 Mon-Fri, these days there are mobile deals out there that will undercut that; for us there is good odds of quicker speeds; plus 4G is supposed to be quite decent for most internet gaming.

... The end of our contract in Jan 2020 cannot come soon enough!

And don't forget to see if you get a better overall price deal by setting up your BB through Topcashback or Quidco etc.

Never really had a problem with sky over the past 5 years or so and always been good and helpful when I've rung with any issues. I might have been lucky.

Rang up this morning and spoke to someone, offered a deal which was OK but not great. Decided to cancel anyway. They then offered me a pretty good deal on just the broadband, probably to keep me as a customer. Was happy with the price they offered so stayed with them for broadband. Also saves me having to put new WiFi passwords in everything lol.

Thanks for the replies.
