Presumably they couldn't have put the cost savings into making the test more rigorous and improving road safety? It's not as if drivers pay their way at the moment, or that the cost of a licence is a significant proportion of "The cost of driving, especially for young drivers".

Though I suspect that even on here, suggesting there are better things to spend government money on than making motoring cheaper won't be a popular view.

I'm sure the £16 saving will be of massive benefit to young drivers when they're presented with a £2,000 insurance bill for their 1.2L Corsa.

Driving needs to cost more , Agree also test needs to be repeated more often .... I do more regulat testing for an electric ****ing forklift

I would also argue for a mandatory period spent on a moped prior to gaining your car licence

Ill never get into parliament

I know exactly where you're coming from, but then you've got the thorny issue of things like disabled drivers who wouldn't be able to ride a bike.

I don't understand the negative comments, the Govt shouldn't be making a profit on services they charge us - in fact they should be actively seeking out reductions.

I'm sure some of the folk above would be the first to complain of increases in price of things they needed.

If that is my occupation I will insist on testing it weekly. Quids in (for me) ... 😆

It wasn't long ago that most people were criticising the removal of the tax disc, claiming we wouldn't see anything back from the cost savings and that we were being screwed over as when a car changes ownership the tax will be duplicated.

So now they announce a fairly substantial cut for driving license charges and we still criticise 🙄
