We live in a terraced house with concrete floors. Currently have Virgin Media WiFi broadband. I'm looking for recommendations to get broadband upstairs (currently zero signal). I looked at the £25ish powerline boosters, do you have to connect with an Ethernet to all devices upsatairs ? My WiFi box is right next to an electircal socket so no problems attaching and ethernet and plug to the existing devic. I would like a system that transmits broadband upstairs with out plugging ethernet cables into devices upstairs.
thank
You've probably got no replies yet as people are fed up of repeating the same old answers. Try doing a site search and see what comes up.
(Hint: the answer is a mesh system but you don't get owt for nowt)
You can get powerline units with wifi or plugged network lead or both. Sounds like you want a wifi one. They all seem to work. Not 100% but close enough to do the job without spending much money. Mine has been running for a few years, occasionally needs turning off and on, maybe every 6 months or so. If it needs to be perfect then maybe go for mesh but expect to spend a lot more
Mesh is an expensive way to do it. Just spend 60 quid on a decent router. Easy to setup. Took me longer to think of passwords than set mine up ( also Virgin).
Mesh is expensive but having set it up I would not go back to normal range extenders etc. Having a single SSID and seamless, full strength wifi coverage throughout the house, from cellar to attic and all points in-between, is well worth the entrance price in my book.
Much depends on the specifics of the property of course but for me there is no way I'd go back to anything else...

This is obviously not good advice for everybody. No router can supply a good signal to all parts of every property.
This is something I'm interested in. I get good coverage to all parts of the house with a Virgin Hub 3 but I realise I’ve been adding things to it which seems to be killing the speed.
Wi-Fi wise we’ve got:
2 phones
2 tablets
Laptop
Printer
Chromecast
Chromecast Audio
Roku
Ring Doorbell
Ring Chime
Not all used at the same time.
Ethernet we’ve got a Tivo box, via a Netgear powerline link and a Yamaha MusicCast amp.
I don’t think we need a Mesh system. I know I can switch the Hub to Modem only so my choices are a simple router like a TP-Link Archer C7 for £84 delivered from Argos
or if I do need Mesh:
Netgear Orbi £135
Tenda Nova MW3 – £60 from Amazon
Anything stopping me going for the simple option of the TP-Link?
The other question is; does the powerline interfere with and slow down my wi-fi? I could change things round and do without it.
