Just down in Cornwall at the minute and the sea is freezing (to me anyway!), so thinking of getting a wetsuit.
Are the 'gift shop' ones better than nothing or do you need to spend proper money? In reallity it will only get used a few times a year for body boarding.
If proper are there any good shops near Penzance?
They are ok, just don't expect the best performance. Just like a budget bike - they will get you by. My kids have cheapo or second hand ones each year in Scotland (so much colder water) and are fine. Get ones with arms and legs, not a shortie.
i have been using my 19Euro decathlon shorty for years now...still does the trick 🙂
As long as you get one that fits, it should be fine. they should be snug fit and a little bit of a struggle to get on/off IMO.
The fit is the key. If it is not a snug fit you will get cold water sloshing around inside.
More money gets you neoprene that is far more stretchy and better zips and stitching. These all make for a bit more comfort and warmth, but for occasional use, a cheap suit will be fine.
It'll be fine unless it doesn't fit in which it'll rub you raw...
Oh and it's a bit like bikes. Once you've tried a decent one you won't want to go back.
Snugg custom winter suit and a west summer suit for me.
Best tip I was given re wetsuits was put a carrier bag on each foot as you're putting it on. Feet slide in much easier! And I bought the kids cheap ones I had a proper one 😉
or you could just leave your socks on, saves that irritating trip to Tesco first!

Cornwall/socks?????
I was in Braunton (N Devon) last week and they sell wetsuits in Tesco there.
Ah, forgive me. I forget that some only head out during the summer months only.
