One of the parking sensors on my 08 Passat has stopped working, which means now none of them, nor the camera will work. I think I need a code reader to find out which one is broken. Does anyone know if this cheap one from ECP will do what i need, or perhaps this slightly more expensive one, or do I need to find someone with the full VAG COM package? There's plenty of USB cables on ebay for about a tenner, but from what I gather they will only work with pre-2004 cars.

Cheers!

I have a Carista I got from Amazon. It connects to your phone via Bluetooth. Just check the website first to make your car is supported. It works perfectly on my VW van.

easiest way to check that is put ignition on, engine off, put car in reverse (you'll probably get a long tone and then nothing), go and put your ear right next to each sensor and you should hear a faint clicking if not from one that is the faulty sensor. If none do it you have a broader problem.
Also if you're near Sheffield I've got a few tools and would plug in for you.

if you’re over 40 get a nearby teenager to listen for you.

I dont think carista will give you the correct pdc fault codes, i could be wrong, better if you have a word on one of the vw forums and find someone local to you with vcds.

It will be the connectors id bet rather than the sensor.

if you’re over 40 get a nearby teenager to listen for you.

Off topic, but my mind was blown when i found out this was a thing. Apparently the aldi not far away plays a high pitched whine to disperse the young uns. I said but i cant hear it.. que a rolled eyes look and the realisation im now old. 😂

Thanks all - steveh, I'm also in Sheffield! I'll have a go at listening to them first but might give you a shout if that's no good, cheers!

+1 on listening for clicks and also check the loom, those wires often get chafed

It stopped working after a particularly heavy rain storm, so hopefully it's just something needing drying out.

I thought there was a process where you could get the code from the car via morse code-ish? (I'm not joking!)
