Looking to buy a cheap laptop £3-400. Where should I be looking beyond Currys/PC World?

Want a proper keyboard, not touch screen but it is mainly used for surfing the web and storing pictures from the camera. Not massive volumes so pretty muchthe base spec machines seem fine.

I would prefer to pick it up today rather than order it but if you make a good recommendation I could be swayed. Based in Southampton if that affects anything.

I'd be off to a supermarket, it has to be said.
Or maybe John Lewis if you're near one as they give good warranties?

Try Staples. HP Sleekbook would get my vote. I've seen them in store at £449 inc VAT

Think for the money this one is brilliant.

Core i5 processor and loads of memory. Cheaper version has 4gb of ram.

The missus just got one of these.

Think its a more premium model than the E1 range. Really well built and nice and fast. Would recommend.

The HP's from PC World are decent enough - both my kids have them.
