Premiere Inn nearby showing £164 for this Weds night only. Anyone know anything clean and OK that can do the job?

Thistle Barbican? Nothing special, but the "premier" rooms are ok.

There's the Tune Hotel near Liverpool Street - 10 mins walk to Old Street.

It's cheap and basic (they charge you extra for towels and windows)

I managed to get a twin room at the holiday inn on old street for £89 on Friday night.

scott b, no idea how or when you got that room rate of £89 on Old Street. Holiday Inn website showing cheapest in that location is £300. Can't stop laughing.

City (and environs) hotels are almost always super cheap for a weekend stay, including a Friday. Midweek, they ramp it up for business travelers.
