Hi all,

Hoping to get away somewhere in Europe for a few days with a mate. Will be back end of August (between 22nd and 31st Aug), 3 or 4 days. On the mega cheap (we're both students).

Hot/beach ideally, rural/not touristy is fine with us too (ie not a generic clubbing destination).

Anywhere which is cheap to fly to? £100ish return would be ace.

And then stay in youth hostel or similar. Cheap food/things to do would be good.

If we can spend under £200-250 all in, would be happy with that.

No clue where to go though. Only place I've looked into so far is Alicante, Spain, simply because someone mentioned it before. Looks alright (is it a little seedy?), flights around £120 depending on dates.

But obviously there must be loads of different places we could visit..

So any thoughts/recommendations would be great 🙂

Ta, Duane.

August bank holiday weekend, in the middle of the school hols - cheap?

anyway, if you can find a cheap flight to Malaga there's a new train that runs from the airport all the way down as far as Fuengirola for a couple of Euros
There must be somewhere on that line that you can find stay?

Yeah admittedly it's not ideal timing, but it's the only time slot we're both free :/

Cheers, will have a look at Malaga.

Try your local STA Travel and get prices for very very last minute stuff. Me and Mrs Flying Ox got flights and 3 nights in a 5-star hotel in Prague over New Year for less than £100 each. Difficulty: We were in STA Travel in Sheffield and the flights were from Manchester and departed in 4 hours.

You might want to check out where I live.
It´s San Sebastian, in the Basque Country on the border between France and Spain. There´s Ryanair or Easyjet flights from London to Biarritz which is half an hour away.

August isn´t really going to be cheap no matter where you end up going.
If you stay in a campsite or hostel it should work out as a reasonably priced holiday. Plus it´s the best bike riding location this side of the Alps (shh, don´t tell anyone).

The beaches are great, although in August they are really busy but you can get a local train to the much bigger french beaches aswell.
And the food is without doubt the best you can eat anywhere.

I know I sound like a travel guide but check it out.

How about getting a Eurail Card for two countries and just blasting through France and into Spain or something?

http://www.eurail.com/eurail-passes/regional-pass

Cheap as chips.

(excuse my editing - you can't do a single country pass for just France which is a bit crap)

Accommodation is peanuts, go to France, hitch hike and stay in their YHA equivalents, live of croissants, baguettes with cheese and ham, sweet little trip. Oh and foot passenger on ferry.

Or buy a cheap tent and go to campsites - I went right across Europe (ended up island hopping around Greece) for 3 months on £600 (albeit in 1990) including train tickets, rucksack, tent, sleeping bag, the lot.

With the £200 of the original £800 budget left I bought my first mountain bike on my return. 🙂

Cheers for replies. Will look into some of these places.

I live in North Wales so ideally flying from Liverpool or Manchester, but could drive further if needed.

Doubt camping is going to happen (not with just carry on anyway).

Inter-railing etc would be ace, but don't think it makes sense for 3-4days.

It it's only 3-4 days then I wouldn't bother spending £100 on flights I#d head on a ferry as a walk on passegner to Belgium or France. Cheap too.

26/8 easyjet Liverpool to Malaga - £45.99
31/8 ryanair Malaga to Liverpool - £70.01

Doubt you'll get much cheaper as the return flights are going to be costly due to the end of the kids holidays

Don't plan on taking hold luggage either at those prices

Just put a deposit on a place just outside Alicante
Easy Jet flights seems to be the cheapiest at the moment
but expect to pay on average £ 104 to and £ 58 pounds return
for the time of year.

My place will be up for rent But will be more the end of September/October
just depending on how fast we can exchange contracts.

Try Barclay rental properties La Marina which is around 30 min drive to Alicante
and 40min drive to Benidorm so your close to things without being there.
