Which is a good cheap ipad which apps still work on? Ours doesn't get the updates for things like iplayer now and we wanted it for a flight.

We normally daisy chain headphones on 3.5mm jacks for the kids. I've no idea what to look at on music magpie

Any of the ipads on here will work for now.
But when iOS 16 comes out who knows.

Do you literally mean an Apple iPad or a tablet in general?

If the latter then an Amazon Fire Kids edition will be cheap for the next 24hrs as it's Amazon Prime Day. They still have headphone jacks and you can install the iPlayer app on the "adult" profile and you still have the option of the "safe sandbox" kids profile with a years "free" content.

To be honest £319 for a brand new current base one with 64GB storage is pretty good if you can stretch to it. Fresh warranty, unused battery, 5+ years of updates. Going for one with a couple of years of use, a slower CPU and half the storage to save maybe £100 doesn't feel like a worthwhile saving.

Although I've just picked up a couple of Amazon Fire 8 tablets (currently £35 each) to stop squabbles rather than replace the old shared iPad. They're surprisingly decent for Disney/Netflix/iPlayer, school stuff like Mathletics and the odd game. Run Fire Toolbox on your PC and you can remove a lot of the Amazon annoyances and put the Google Play Store on there.

Lenovo M10 Plus and Samsung A8 both under £150 at moment for prime day.

Even a basic £40 fire tablet will run iPlayer, simple kids games etc no problem, hence why the amazon fire range have swamped the value end of the market.

Ipads are fine if you're happy with limits of apples walled garden on the app front, but the kids will be happier with a 8" fire or lenovo each, no daisy chained headphones and some Google play vouchers.
