I'd like to insulate my bike shed (9x4x2.5m plus roof pitch) and line it with osb board so it's a bit warmer/easier to make/keep warm, reduce condensation etc but celotex and Sterlingosb are pretty expensive from the builders merchants for 'I'd like' - anyone any good ideas on where to aquire the necessary materials from on the cheap? The inner stud work is quite deep, circa 100mm and I was thinking of an osb board thick enough to be able to hang bikes and windsurf boards from.

Find a wood recyclers, you might get salvaged ply. As for insulation, google Kingspan seconds, no doubt celotex do it as well. Or Gumtree/freecycle.

Either that or get some netting and use loft insulation, much cheaper and will be fairly easy to work with. Certainly made a difference to my floor.

Be wary of using quilt insulation as unless it' bone dry it can be a total pain in the arse if it gets wet. Kingspan and similar prices are currently at an all time high due to a glue factory burning down which has resulted in huge supply issues and them just bumping up the prices. How about a 70mm jablite or similar, fat cheaper and will still take the chill off for certain. As for osb it' usually the cheapest version of ply and a 12mm will be thick enough if you pre plan some extra horizontal timbers pre boarding to take your hangers.

Mine is lined with ex building site hoarding. It's decent grade osb with a thick coat of paint on it. Perfect for the job and was £5 a sheet. Obviously you need a local supplier but mine came from near Bath. They had a load of 2x4 at a few quid a length too. It had a few screws and nails in but they had enough for me to pick the best bits.

Harder to get the celotex cheap. You can buy seconds that are damaged or tapered bit it's still pricey. Mine came from eBay as odds and ends left over from jobs

UK Insulation Seconds - see what the have in randomly. If you're not fussy about a specific profuct, they can work out really cheap for both quilt and board.

Is it just me that thinks a 9m x 4m x 2.5m building is a bit large for a "bike shed"? That's twice the size of my garage.

Anyway, probably a horrible idea but I'd staple some huge vapour barrier sheets to all the walls and then use net/straps to put some thermafleece 50mm stuff in. 7.4m² for £36 works out a lot cheaper than either rockwool/fibreglass or sheet insulation.

Cheers. I'll have a look at the seconds market and left overs at various sites around me. I don't need to do the whole building in one hit so off cuts and left overs will b fine. Is jab lite the same but without foil? I guess this will be fine. I'm a bit blinded by the general statements to fit Celotex.

Site hoarding seems a good idea too. Again, plenty of new build sites around here so I might have a chat with a few site managers.

ive got some breathable membrane to pin up to the inside on the back of the lap boards to help seal the building. Do I need to pack out the complete cavity before final boarding? Or as mentioned, will 50 or 70mm of insulation be ok with a 50 or 30mm gap be ok? Should the gap be on the outside next to the lap board or just behind the final inner board?

it is a big bike shed:) it was the previous owners workshop, hence the size. It seems to be filling up though with, 'oh we could put the tumble drier in there, and the freezer. Oh and the dishwasher whilst waiting to sort the kitchen out, and the prams and buggy... ' Starting to need wall space so I can get to a clear space to work in!
