I need to get a cheap car - under £1000 really (basically as cheap as possible).
Only preference I have is I need it automatic so my wife can drive it, she has a few health issues and just after a bit of independence.
If anyone has anything let me know please that would be great 👍
Not for sale but
We have a polo 1.4 auto.
Its ace and would be worth about that no i think. DSG and everything.
Actually just looked and they are maybe still out that price range.
My wife used to have a Mazda2 - the square one - with a semi-auto box. It was very good and a lot of the parts were from a Fiesta so not expensive to maintain.
Might be some Fabias in that range with a DSG box. We have an 11 plate with 80k miles still going strong.
Il have a look for a Fabia - good shout
If you want it to stay cheap, get a torque converter auto. No clutch plates to wear out.
A fairly old Jazz would fit. Our '07 has CVT and 92k miles, still going strong.
I was going to suggest a Nissan Micra but think the Honda Jazz suggested above is a far better idea.
Toyota Yaris might work? Diddy and easy to park, torque convertor auto and bomb proof engine that is surprisingly peppy.
Just watch for rust.
My mum has one that should be available later this year but unsure if it will go through the next MOT without a bit of welding (and then it might not be viable).
I have a 2001 Polo auto we're looking to get rid of - currently SORN but going to get it MOT'd before putting it up for sale. Let me know if you want more details.
1999-2004 Mark 1 Yaris - first of the European made ones, with 1.3 VVTi engine - we had one until last year, absolutely bomb-proof.
I have half an eye out for something similar for my missus, my (unqualified) observations:
I like Aygo/107/C1 due to the common chassis, there were auto options made by all three marques the Pug is probably the one that will show up cheapest, but unlikely to hit budget.
Auto Yaris' all seem to be a bit overvalued, She learned in one so that's what she'd really like.
Mazda 2 looks like a good option, the brand seems to get dismissed by many, not so many about round our way.
Most likely candidate for a sub £1000 budget though is probably a Corsa auto from early~mid 00's, there's plenty about, they sold them to grans for trundling to the shops, and were given the swerve by the spirited driving yoofs who wanted their shit-box manual flavoured...
Nowt wrong with Mazdas. I've had several, so have my family. The 323/3 626/6 variants are always excellent.
Those who dismiss them are ill-informed and probably drive Vauxhalls 🤦♂️ (probably a Belmont)
Mazda 2s are great little cars, but finding one for sensible money, auto or manual, is a bloody nightmare.
07 Honda Jazz onwards. Earlier have a gearbox issue which causes juddering (unless it was sorted of course), fold flat seats so ot's of room in the back. They're a great little car.
1999-2004 Mark 1 Yaris – first of the European made ones, with 1.3 VVTi engine – we had one until last year, absolutely bomb-proof.
My sister has 2003 Mk1 1.3 auto. Now on 150k. Barely missed a beat in 18 years.
Sadly our 2001 1.3 D4D succumbed to dead glow plugs seized in and didn't want to risk cracking the alu head having them removed - at136k having been in the family since new. Cost servicing and wear parts plus one wheel bearing and one alternator.
