The newest model that launched has changed lightning for usb-c but seems otherwise near identical. On Amazon the lightning version is still £220 (only £10 less than the c).

but on eBay there seem to be a stack of sellers selling as “brand new” for as little as £85. (Search airpod pro 2nd generation)

Edit. And there seem to be usb c models as well  this guy has 4 sets that are just £70?! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/225829575840?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=0ceechp8rei&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=fz0qwEikRN2&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

what’s the catch?

They’ll be fake most likely? Or used rather than actually new.

Yeah! You’re not getting iPods for that price.

Zero feedback and just happens to have 4 pair?

I don’t get it selling on eBay as buyer protection is so strong.

If you get them and they’re fake, you report the seller as selling counterfeit goods, eBay refunds you money (and in the case of the fake Oakley I bought) you get to keep the goods.

likewise if they turn out to be stolen or broken.

You won’t get money back as the scammer has hacked an account most likely

I’ve bought earphones from eBay, in fact I’m wearing them right now, but they aren’t Apple and I’d be deeply suspicious of something like that. <br />Mine are Ultimate Ears, not as well known as Apple by a wide margin!

Quack.  🦆

There are very convincing fakes these days. The counterfeiters figured out how to clone the H2 chip that Apple use so you get all the right popups and controls on the iphone. They usually sound a lot worse and the noise cancelling doesn't work.

They're one thing I'd only buy from Apple or somewhere like John Lewis.

Assuming you’d notice, I mean it was evident from the page itself, then you get your money back, some crap ear buds and the seller keeps the money. Of course that’s if you even notice in time.

well order some then if you're so confident 😂 If I can't see the exact scam I always just assume there's some kind of angle I haven't considered, the scammers wouldn't bother if there were no way at all to make money would they?!

I've ordered from Apple for myself but K's after a set too so I'm tempted to order some eBay specials and see if how they turn out.  Should be able to tell if fake if have a set of genuine ones to compare to.

I seem to remember seeing some social media about a semi-riot shoplifting thing at the Regent Street apples Store  a few weeks back - I wonder if they're stolen.  Theres definitely something dodgy about all the listings as none of them have any selling history or other items.

This one seems to actually have some history and be selling as 'returns or factory seconds' and they're still £90 https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/teahore2?_trksid=p4429486.m145687.l151931

Buy a stolen/hacked/randomly created eBay account for £5. Sell 2 or 3 pairs, take the money and run, buy a new account, repeat...

in all seriousness there is 0% chance that you'll end up with a genuine set so why waste your time? Just stick an alert in HUKD & buy some when the price is right. Cheapest I've seen APP2 lately is <£200 @ CostCo. Even cheaper if you're happy with APP1.

In the past I ordered some cheap Avid BB7s from eBay, they were shit but if I hadn't know I might have thought all BB7s were shit rather than just those fakes. Sent them back & got refund but couldn't leave neg feedback - so could be your seller is no doubt working on not everyone returning them.

why bother?

you are literally paying for the branding

and then by buying from an unknown, actually taking a gamble on the brand.
