This p*ss me off big time.

Ok I just watched the Channel 4 news and the lads were fighting the Taliban insurgents etc. All good and lads were doing well ... then ...

They entered a Afgan household compound and one of the lads got bitten by a big Afgan guard/pet dog. Yes, punctured holes and all that so big deal but get this ...

Then later on one of the lads took aim with his gun and shot the dog dead!

Before the dog was shot it was already cowering at the corner knowing that it did the wrong thing but one of lad just have to shoot it.

Now, I don't mind the lads shooting the brain off the Taliban or chop them to pieces etc ... I will still buy them a pint.

But get this ... why shot/killed a defenseless dog because one of you got bitten by it?

For those of you who think this dog has given your position away ... No. It was daylight and the Taliban already knew their position.

The dog is there to protect the owner compound and the lads have entered it. It was frighten by a group of strangers that's all.

The lad who shot the dog dead you definitely have a pea brain. With the brain size like yours no wonder the fight against the insurgents, them with primitive "technology", were long and hard.

The last time a dog was shot dead it was in Iraq when it was barking at the American army because they have entered it's compound. The worst case was that dog was chained.

Only a pea brain shoots defenseless animals. So now we have a British trooper shot a defenseless pet/guard dog ... well done and all live on Channel 4 too. You were so brave ...

😡

With all that's going on in Afghanistan, the worst you can find to complain about is somebody shooting a dog? ffs.

Have you thought this through, your values seem a bit confused.

I don't mind the lads shooting the brain off the Taliban or chop them to pieces etc ... I will still buy them a pint.

I've never been to war, but I imagine that living with the thought that you may kill human beings might cloud your judgement when it comes to dogs.

Describe to us what you think a 'taliban' is?

I see your point, but put yourself in the soldier's shoes. What you gonna do? Take it home and let it sleep at the end of the bed? Its so scared, probably won't see its owners again = put it out of its misery. Not that I agree with shooting dogs, likes, or the soldier even got that far in his thinking. Wouldn't surprise me if they're 'trained' to kill any such animals they come across.

No. You do not shoot something that is defenseless especially when it is an animal like a dog.

But human animal yes when they carry AK-47.

I remember a band called the Afghan Hounds I would have happily shot. Apart from that, I'm not really sure what you're on about.

EDIT: f*ck me monster. I would have shot that long faced freak if I had a gun.

Live with the punctured holes and get on with it. Stop shooting a defenseless animal. What a coward.

Has TJ joined up? maybe the dog was not under control and was causing annoyance/disturbance to the other people in the compound?

I agree with the poster sure tension is high etc but there's a big difference imo of shooting a dog that's prob just scared and defending itself and shooting a person armed with the intention of taking you out

Yes, you can shoot the human with AK because they might blow your head off. Defenseless animal ... what a pea brain.

Theatre? WTF! Everyone can shoot and everyone can kill but killing a defenseless animal is only for pea brain. You are trained to distinguish when to shoot ... but a dog? You are definitely not fit to carry that gun.

I do not care if you are in theatre or war ... if you are so trigger happy and cannot even distinguish a dog from a Taliban then you are better off not going. Still a pea brain.

Sorry to piss on your chips Chookoo but I watched the same programme and if you actually bothered to listen properly the reporter states "one round OVER ITS HEAD and there's no more from the dog". You can see/hear all this at 10m 43s in this channel 4 news vid (you can fast forward to the time point).

I'm guessing that animal rights are some way down the list of priorities, when you might get shot any second.

Unless the OP doesn't eat meat, never wears any cosmetics (including deodorant) and never uses any leather products then maybe we can forgive the guy for making a judgement that we can sit comfortably back in our armchairs and ponder over...

I don't think a soldier in Afganistan can be called a coward under any circumstances. And as the C4 link above quite clearly states "one round OVER ITS HEAD and there's no more from the dog", yes, its scared shitless, but not apparently dead yet.

I would if I can meet him face to face. I will put this to him and ask his rationale for shooting the dog.

If you know him we can meet. So are you saying that he has the brute strength? Or are you saying he has the gun? Like I said everyone can shoot and everyone can kill but if he has a pea brain then he might as well come home.

He is trained for fight is he not? He is trained in making the right decision at the right time at the right moment is he not? So when was he trained to shoot a dog? Taliban yes but a dog. Where?

To be fair, it is not as if the Afghanis are a nation of dog lovers.

According to your link Jamie :

"Dogfighting is facing a resurgence after it was banned under the Taliban for being un-Islamic. "

So there are now weekly dog fights in Afghanistan's capital Kabul, to which spectators come to watch ?
But the Taliban wants to ban them ?

OK, now I'm getting a little confused. The Taliban are the 'good guys' - right ?
And we're there to help them - yeah ?
.......... so why does chewkw say : "I don't mind the lads shooting the brains off the Taliban " 😕

I don't think a soldier in Afganistan can be called a coward under any circumstances.

I'm sure there are some that are. I haven't logged into Help Our Heroes or something have I? You know, where any serving soldier is completely above criticism. They joined up and learned how to kill people, I guess if it's an animal, it's just practice isn't it? Let's just call it collateral damage shall we and be done with it.

He. Didn't. Shoot. The. Dog.
One round over it's head, the dog ran off, you can see it go.

Suppose he'd left it there, it's just bitten a soldier (who now needs rabies treatment), there's loads of other soldiers milling around, confusion, noise, helicopters etc, suppose the dog goes ballistic and starts attacking people?

One bang, dog runs off, the soldier has saved the dog from being injured/shot and saved his comrades from any further attack.

I do not mind being called a pea brain if I was wrong and if it was not killed but shooting a dog is definitely not on.

The last time a dog was killed because it was barking some pea brain American soldiers and they shot it. The dog was chained when it was barking.

bad things happen in war, people act in ways that are deemed bad or wrong in normal society. Its how people deal with horrible things. I never went to war when I was in the army, but was always disgusted by my staff sarge's racism towards iraqis. Then he told me that he didn't really hate them, but he found it very hard to shoot people if he saw them as people, and thought about their families, lives and past. He was dehumanising them, acting in an overtly offensive way to try and make his job and his ability to cope with it easier, in his words, "its easier to shoot a rat than a person.". Its not right, its not my way, but then I'm not a soldier in a war and I don't have to deal with these things.

yeah he shot a dog, its bad and wrong. If he'd shot it at the time it'd be ok, if the dog got blown up by a rocket it'd be ok.

its sad that people act like that, but worse things happen in war.

To be fair chewkw, the Yanks aren't too fussed who they shoot - as long as they shoot something. So I don't reckon a dog's chance very much when they're around.

Our Boys on the other hand, come from a nation of animal lovers. So we don't do that sort of stuff 8)

I have known/know a couple a British soldiers (old school mates) and to tell the truth I'm quite frankly terrified that some of these people are given guns and allowed to be supposedly responsible adults! If your a halfwit without a gun it doesn't bear thinking about if you have one and some of the Americans are much much worse.

Wow can you really do that? I mean shooting a dog because it barks. That's wickid awusm...
Now because my neighbour's dog is an annoying ****er and she (the neighbour) is not too bothered about it (even when the dog escapes and try to bit me, throw me off my bike) and see I really wouldn't mind to shoot him. Off course to make it ok with the OP I'll dress him as a taliban of course.

The dog is alive
The dog ran away.
See spot run
Run spot run!
