I'm likely to be changing my employment mid-insurance-year and when I've done this before it's always caused an unjusustified step up in premium ie a new quote with either job would have been more or less the same but the revised premium on existing premium is £150 for the remains 6 months

I think basically insurance companies take the opportunity to up the premium  - any advice on how best to avoid this. I'm just about to renew new insurance but job change probably 3 or 4 moths away.

Job or employment sector? Mine have always wanted to know what I do not who I work for

They ask for both - but it's the job rather than employer that matters I think. I'm going back to work after a sabbatical - so "houseperson" back to accountant!

Basically I think it's just an excuse to squeeze some money outta my pocket for any change

Job change rather than company - never told them about company changes - that's life.

I told the insurance company I'd be changing cars mid year when I took out the policy, and they added a note to waive any admin fees.

I've never been asked for my employers details when obtaining motor insurance, only occupation.

You might find that Accountant is cheaper then Househusband too.

Scotroutes - it may well be if getting a new policy but think the issue is there is no scope for negotiation mid-year - it seems to be a take it or leave it offer.  Cancelling policies generally incurs penalty costs. i will see what the companies say though when I'm getting a new policy.

But I think it's probably a case of sucking it up or getting permission from Mrs OD to allow me to extend life of indolence.

I took a redundancy offer earlier this year and took the last 6 months off. Phoned  my insurer they whacked £500 on to my premium because my job status was now unemployed. To be fair, I do drive 10 times more now so it's not unreasonable that I'm a higher risk now

Changed my 12 plate transit to a brand spanker 2 months ago, no charge whatsoever.
