Planning to change to from a 25 year old Ideal Classic conventional boiler to a combi boiler (probably an Intergas) but my flue is over my neighbour's garden (and I'm in a first floor flat) and since they had it landscaped I can't see how you'd get a ladder from it up to the flue (and would be a hassle arranging access anyway). If I keep the boiler in the same position is it likely external work would be needed on the flue?
You can push the new flue out from inside but you'll ideally need outside access to make good on the hole if it needs enlarging and to fit the weather seal. If you don't need to enlarge the home just fitting the seal is very easy. Can you reach from a window? That said I'm struggling to see what kind if landscaping precludes using a ladder.
You'll need access to it to test the boiler won't you?
Hmm good point on testing the emissions after fitting. The garden area is mostly rocky where the ladder would need to go, there's about 3' path between that and the wall but I doubt that's enough for a ladder going that high (also aren't there rules now about an anchor point in the wall?) - partly I just want to avoid having to schedule work around them (can only gain access to the garden through their house or garage).
Might look at something going up through the ceiling, into the attic, across to outside my garden and then down out the eaves - assuming that fits within regs...
Emissions test on our Combi is from a test point in the flue above the boiler (not outside).
Download the installation manual for new boiler - it will show the possible flue positions. Even with same manufacturer, our new Combi was half a brick different
