Was at that very place back in March.
Sh** was there last week
Blimey, hope nobody was hurt!
It will need some big effort to get that ready for the winter, it is a major bit of infrastructure for Grands Montets.
They did a very passable Tartiflette in there..
Hmmm. The cynic within thinks: 1 week CMB Lift pass price for 17/18 €300. 1 week CMB lift pass price for 18/19 with 50% of the ski area shut €300. Perhaps they could remove-invest all the cash they stash away from the €5 cans of coke back into having a team from doppelmayr onsite 24/7 while they rebuild.
GM and AdM (above plan) telepheriques both closed 😳
will hit the compagnies des guides and their easier lessons/routes business. Glad I gave them some money last week
More likely an insurance claim, so not much of an issue where cash comes from, just if they can rebuild for the winter. There will likely be a few twitchy chalet owners in the valley.
In all seriousness it sounds like both lifts will need extensive reconstruction. I seriously doubt it’ll be up and running before the season starts in December. Construction work usually ends in the alps around November and won’t restart until April/May.
id be surprised if they’re insured against loss of infrastructure or even if the infrastructure itself is insured against loss.
Lifts etc are built to order and on a long lead time, so no way they'll be running by winter.
They'll have to replace the cables or at least the heated sections. Re splicing a lift cable is a major operation!
The company working on the building (who are presumably responsible for the accidental fire) should have been insured.
CMB are also in discussion with the provider of the cable to the Aiguille du Midi as that has been found to be faulty one year after being fitted... 🙁

Firstly, glad that it appears no-one has been hurt.
Doesn't look too bad for the ski area. If it's "just" the two cable cars out of action then it will reduce access to some of the great off piste, but for everyone else who will have chosen the gondala and the pistes it'll be largely business as usual.
So.. there have been controversial plans to redevelop. And there's a fire. hmmmmmm..... What a coincidence. Isn't this what usually happens at dry ski slopes in the uk?
