[Closed] CF card problems - anything I can do?

Got some pics on my Lexar CF card on my Canon Digital Rebel 300, and can't download them through the usual ways - connecting camera direct to MacBook Pro. Transfer begins but then just stops immediately. This morning on playback the card is showing 'corrupted data'.

I took one more photo and the images are visible again on the camera. I plugged in to download and they're visible in Bridge's Photo Downloader software, but don't transfer.

Have ordered a card reader, but anything I can do to recover my images?

Thanks.

Wait for the card reader. I sometimes lose sight of pictures on the camera/card but they're still there. Don't panic.
It's good to have a back way of downloading too.

You'll probably have to wait for the card reader but there is plenty of software available for recovering from corrupted cards. I don't have a Mac though so can't think of any names.

Glad to help.

I had a similar problem with an SD card and Zero Assumption Recovery worked for me. They sell data recovery software but offer the photo recovery program for free.

The only problem is, it's a Windows program...

Buy a PC!! zomg eleventyone

What the others have said, basically. It's probably recoverable with basic tools, just wait for the reader to turn up.

When you say they "don't transfer", have you tried transferring them individually rather than doing them all at once?

Sandisk include a rescue program with their Extreme cards, do Lexar do anything similar I wonder?

Nicely. All sorted thanks to Lexar card reader. Now should I get a new CF card or what?

Probably no need...reformat it and it will most likely be fine. If it keeps corrupting I would chuck it, but the chances are it will be ok.

I have a habit of corrupting cards since my D70s doesn't like you changing lenses while it's turned on...and I keep forgetting to check it's off first!

Possibly no need to reformat it, I always clear the card and stick it back in the camera without problems. Take a couple of pictures to try before you need it for important pics...
